Human concentrative nucleoside transporters include SLC28A1, SLC28A2 and SLC28A3 proteins. SLC28A2 is a purine-specific Na+-nucleoside cotransporter localised to the bile canalicular membrane.{{cite journal | vauthors = Che M, Ortiz DF, Arias IM | title = Primary structure and functional expression of a cDNA encoding the bile canalicular, purine-specific Na(+)-nucleoside cotransporter | journal = The Journal of Biological Chemistry | volume = 270 | issue = 23 | pages = 13596–9 | date = Jun 1995 | pmid = 7775409 | doi = 10.1074/jbc.270.23.13596 | doi-access = free }} SLC28A1 is a Na+-dependent nucleoside transporter selective for pyrimidine nucleosides and adenosine. It also transports the anti-viral nucleoside analogues Zidovudine and Zalcitabine.{{cite journal | vauthors = Huang QQ, Yao SY, Ritzel MW, Paterson AR, Cass CE, Young JD | title = Cloning and functional expression of a complementary DNA encoding a mammalian nucleoside transport protein | journal = The Journal of Biological Chemistry | volume = 269 | issue = 27 | pages = 17757–60 | date = Jul 1994 | doi = 10.1016/S0021-9258(17)32370-0 | pmid = 8027026 | doi-access = free }}
