Disodium cocoamphodiacetate (DSCADA) is a synthetic amphoteric surfactant routinely used in personal care products.
Biodegradability
A 2008 study suggested high levels of DSCADA (>216 mg/L) may be toxic to bacteria in wastewater treatment processes.{{cite journal |journal=Water Environment Research |year=2008 |volume=80 |issue=3 |pages=276–81 |title=Biodegradation of disodium cocoamphodiacetate by a wastewater microbial consortium |vauthors=Sharvelle S, Skvarenina E, Banks MK |pmid=18419016|doi=10.2175/106143008x268489 |bibcode=2008WaEnR..80..276S |s2cid=42530940 }} Results from the 2008 research indicated that DSCADA has limited biodegradability and recalcitrant metabolites may develop.
