enkyklon

{{Short description|Kind of himation (wraparound)}}

Enkyklon was a kind of himation. Enkyklon was most likely used as a wraparound outer garment, a mantle or 'encircling'. It was worn by ancient Greek women from the archaic through the Hellenistic periods. The garment has been recorded at the ancient Greek sanctuary of Artemis, Brauron. Contemporary wraps such as Ampechonon, Epiblēma are also included in the inventories at Delos (Leto, Hera), Brauron, Tanagra and Samos (Hera).{{Cite book|url=http://archive.org/details/artjournal1218unse|title=The Art journal|date=1849|publisher=London : George Virtue|others=Getty Research Institute|pages=324}}{{Cite book|last1=Fejfer|first1=Jane|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ENc_CgAAQBAJ&dq=enkyklon&pg=PA59|title=Tradition: Transmission of Culture in the Ancient World|last2=Moltesen|first2=Mette|last3=Rathje|first3=Annette|date=2015-04-09|publisher=Museum Tusculanum Press|isbn=978-87-635-4258-6|pages=59|language=en}}{{Cite book|last=Sommerstein|first=Alan H.|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=dAjZDwAAQBAJ&dq=enkyklon&pg=PA150|title=Indexes: The Comedies of Aristophanes: Vol 12|date=2002-12-15|publisher=Oxford University Press|isbn=978-1-80034-611-6|pages=150|language=en}}
