Facetectomy is a surgical procedure which involves decompression of a spinal nerve root. For example, it can be performed in severely resistant cases of cervical rhizalgia, where the cervical nerve roots within the intervertebral foramina are decompressed.{{cite journal |author=Knight G |title=Facetectomy in the Treatment of Cervical Rhizalgia |journal=Proceedings of the Royal Society of Medicine |volume=48 |issue=8 |pages=595–7 |date=August 1955 |pmid=13254725 |pmc=1919197 |doi= 10.1177/003591575504800806}}
