flowability
{{Short description|Physical property of a powder}}
Flowability, also known as powder flow is a property that defines an ability of a powdered material to flow, related to cohesion.{{cite web |author=Karolina Szulc, Andrzej Lenart |year=2009 |title=WŁAŚCIWOŚCI KOHEZYJNE WYBRANYCH PROSZKÓW SPOŻYWCZYCH |trans-title=Cohesive properties of chosen edible powders |url=https://yadda.icm.edu.pl/baztech/element/bwmeta1.element.baztech-article-BAR0-0045-0061/c/httpir_ptir_orgartykulypl111ir1112478pl.pdf |publisher=Warsaw University of Life Sciences |language=pl}}
Powder flowability depends on many traits:{{cite web |title=Badanie własności proszków |trans-title=Examining properties of powders |url=http://www.kmimp.agh.edu.pl/pliki/cz2.pdf |language=pl}}
- the shape and size of the powder particles due to intermolecular force,
- porosity
- electrostatic activity
- hygroscopy
- bulk density
- angle of repose
- presence of glidants
- oxidation rate (of a metallic powder)
- humidity
ISO 4490:2018 norm (and its precedent, ISO 4490:2014) standardizes a method for determining the flow rate of metallic powders. It uses a normalized/calibrated funnel, named Hall flowmeter.{{Cite web |title=ISO 4490:2014 |url=https://www.iso.org/cms/render/live/en/sites/isoorg/contents/data/standard/06/51/65132.html |access-date=2022-11-21 |website=ISO |language=en}}
