}}A hamdog is a combination of a hamburger and a hot dog. Dishes of this name have been invented in Australia and the United States.
Australia
Australian Mark Murray conceived one kind of hamdog in 2004. His version contains a beef patty cut in two, with a frankfurter placed in between the two patties, then topped off with cheese, pickles, sauces, tomato, lettuce and onion. He received a US design patent for the specially shaped bun in 2009.{{cite news|url=http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/eat/the-hamdog--a-cross-between-a-hamburger-and-a-hotdog--is-here/news-story/ecf2fbb9bb28fd5c026deb2745942406 |title=The Hamdog — a cross between a hamburger and a hotdog — is here |newspaper=news.com.au |date=September 20, 2016 |first=Rebecca |last=Sullivan}}
United States
Another variety of hamdog was invented in February 2005 by Chandler Goff, the owner of a bar in Decatur, Georgia. This version consists of a hot dog wrapped in a half pound of hamburger with bacon, cheese and onion on a hoagie bun which is deep-fried and served with a fried egg on top and a side of French fries.{{cite news|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=AT&p_theme=at&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=1099D7E66BD21D0E&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM|title=It's a deep-fried train wreck, but I can die happy|date=April 21, 2005|work=The Atlanta Journal-Constitution|publisher=NewsBank|access-date=August 11, 2010}} He started selling it at the Indiana State Fair in 2006.{{cite news|first=Jennifer|last=Harper|url=http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-5633383/All-is-fare-at-frying.html|title=All is fare at frying fests; Even strawberry is not exempt at state fairs|date=August 3, 2006|work=The Washington Times|publisher=The Gale Group|access-date=August 11, 2010}} A hamdog eating contest was established in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, in 2007 by Jimmy's Food and Drink.
