It is headquartered in Austin, Texas, and Stamford, Connecticut, with additional offices around the world.{{Cite news|url=http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/business/article/Indeed-announces-plans-for-several-hundred-new-11283124.php|title=Indeed announces plans for several hundred new Stamford jobs|work=Stamford Advocate |location=Stamford, CT |access-date=2018-01-20|archive-date=January 31, 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200131134548/https://www.stamfordadvocate.com/business/article/Indeed-announces-plans-for-several-hundred-new-11283124.php|url-status=live}} As a single topic search engine, its central functionality is also an example of vertical search. Indeed is currently available in over 60 countries and 28 languages. In October 2010, Indeed.com surpassed Monster.com to become the highest-traffic job website in the United States.{{cite web|last=Schonfeld|first=Erick|date=November 17, 2010|title=Indeed Slips Past Monster, Now Largest Job Site by Unique Visitors|url=https://techcrunch.com/2010/11/17/indeed-monster-largest-job-site/|access-date=December 9, 2010|website=TechCrunch|archive-date=December 24, 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20191224152346/http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/17/indeed-monster-largest-job-site/|url-status=live}}

The site aggregates job listings from thousands of websites, including job boards, staffing firms, associations, and company career pages. History

Indeed was cofounded by Paul Forster and Rony Kahan in 2004 in both Austin, Texas, and Stamford, Connecticut.{{cite web |url= http://www.indeed.com/founders.jsp |title= Founders |publisher= InternetInc.com |access-date= 2014-08-23 |archive-date= August 10, 2014 |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20140810210205/http://www.indeed.com/founders.jsp |url-status= live }} The Stamford offices house the company's sales, client services, finance, and human resources teams, while the product development staff is based in Austin.

In 2005, Indeed launched the beta version of their "pay-per-click job advertising network".{{cite web |url=http://www.searchenginejournal.com/indeedcom-launches-job-search-ppc-advertising-network/3420/ |title=Indeed.com Launches Job Search PPC Advertising Network |author=Baker, Loren |work=Search Engine Journal |date=2006-05-16 |access-date=2008-04-09 |archive-date=January 31, 2020 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200131135113/https://www.searchenginejournal.com/indeedcom-launches-job-search-ppc-advertising-network/3420/ |url-status=live }} In addition to searching job postings, it allows the frequency of specific words within these postings to be tracked over time, serving as a potential indicator of trends in the job markets. The company took an investment round of $5 million in funding from Union Square Ventures, The New York Times and Allen & Company.{{cite news|last1=Shontell|first1=Alyson|title=Indeed, An Almost Entirely Bootstrapped Job Search Giant, Gets A Monster Exit|url=http://www.businessinsider.com/indeed-an-almost-entirely-bootstrapped-job-search-giant-gets-a-monster-exit-2012-9|access-date=28 February 2018|work=Business Insider|date=25 September 2012|archive-date=February 28, 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180228215601/http://www.businessinsider.com/indeed-an-almost-entirely-bootstrapped-job-search-giant-gets-a-monster-exit-2012-9|url-status=live}}

On May 13, 2024, Indeed laid off approximately 1,000 employees, or about 8% of the company. Indeed CEO Chris Hyams announced on May 13 in a letter to employees, a move driven in part by "a global slow-down in hiring," the message said. The vast majority of the layoffs were in the U.S., Hyams said, largely within R&D and the go-to-market teams. "While the global economy has improved in several areas over the past year, we are not yet set up for sustainable growth," Hyams said. “Despite our efforts so far, our organization is still too complex,” he continued, indicating that the company is aiming to "simplify" areas of the business to make decision-making faster.{{Cite web|url=https://www.statesman.com/story/business/real-estate/2024/05/13/indeed-layoffs-jobs-cut-austin-texas-ceo-chris-hyams/73674932007/|title=Austin-based Indeed.com cutting about 1,000 jobs, or roughly 8% of its global workforce|first=Shonda|last=Novak|website=Austin American-Statesman}}
