A split second elapsed, then the ball was snapped and the wall of three blockers charged on.{{cite news|author=John Heisman|author-link=John Heisman|title=Jump Shift Is A Legal Play|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/2539044/the_washington_herald/|work=The Washington Herald|date=November 12, 1918|page=10|access-date=June 2, 2015|via=Newspapers.com}} {{Open access}} If needed, the center could also snap it to one of the other backs.
