Characteristics
The writing script is defined by its distinct sharp upward hooks. It has strokes that are merged, similar to the style seen in cursive script. Even though the script has merged strokes and is written quickly, it is just as readable as regular script is. In the essay {{Langx|vi|Vũ trung tùy bút|label=none}} ({{vi-nom|雨中隨筆}}), {{Lang|vi|Phạm Đình Hổ|italic=no}} wrote that the edict script mimics the style of cursive script ({{Langx|vi|chữ thảo|label=none}}, {{vi-nom|𡨸草}}), which is described as imitating the motion of a sword dance.{{Cite book |last=Phạm |first=Đình Hổ |title=Cảo thơm trước đèn - Vũ trung tùy bút |publisher=NXB Trẻ |year=2012 |pages=15 |language=vi |quote=Lối chữ thảo thì bắt chước vũ kiếm mà quằn quèo.}} But the edict script underwent changes where strokes were written fluidly with distinctive hooks. History
The script first appeared during the {{Lang|vi|Lê trung hưng|italic=no}} period (Revival Lê dynasty).
