Lancotrione is a herbicide, closely related to tefuryltrione. Its mode of action inhibits 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), an enzyme which produces homogentisic acid.
It was announced by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha in 2016,{{cite journal |last1=Jeanmart |first1=Stephane |last2=Edmunds |first2=Andrew J.F. |last3=Lamberth |first3=Clemens |last4=Pouliot |first4=Martin |last5=Morris |first5=James A. |title=Synthetic approaches to the 2015–2018 new agrochemicals |journal=Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry |date=June 2021 |volume=39 |pages=116162 |doi=10.1016/j.bmc.2021.116162|pmid=33895705 }} and commercialised in 2019.{{cite web |title=Lancotrione: mode of action, uses, and synthesis method_Chemicalbook |url=https://www.chemicalbook.com/article/lancotrione-mode-of-action-uses-and-synthesis-method.htm |website=www.chemicalbook.com}} Lancotrione is a new herbicide, usually used in the form of sodium salt to control grass weeds, in rice crops.{{cite journal |last1=Lewis |first1=Kathleen A. |last2=Tzilivakis |first2=John |last3=Warner |first3=Douglas J. |last4=Green |first4=Andrew |title=An international database for pesticide risk assessments and management |journal=Human and Ecological Risk Assessment |date=18 May 2016 |volume=22 |issue=4 |pages=1050–1064 |doi=10.1080/10807039.2015.1133242|bibcode=2016HERA...22.1050L |hdl=2299/17565 |hdl-access=free }} As such, little is yet known about it.
