The Lovers of Cluj-Napoca are a pair of human skeletons discovered in 2013 by archaeologists in the cemetery of a former Dominican convent in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.{{Cite web |url= https://www.archaeology.org/news/819-130424 |title= Buried Couple Found Holding Hands - Archaeology Magazine |website= www.archaeology.org |access-date= 2019-11-25}}{{Cite web |url= https://www.huffpost.com/entry/romania-skeletons-holding-hands-cluj-napoca_n_3133860 |title= LOOK: Romanian Romeo and Juliet Buried Hand In Hand |last= Davis |first= Carlo |date= 2013-04-22 |website= HuffPost |language= en |access-date= 2019-11-25}} The couple are believed to have lived between 1450 and 1550 – between the year the convent was established and the year the graveyard was secularised. Analysis by archaeologists confirmed that the skeletons belong to a man and a woman around 30 years of age. The couple were buried facing each other, and with their hands interlocked.{{Cite journal|last1=Lugli|first1=Federico|last2=Di Rocco|first2=Giulia|last3=Vazzana|first3=Antonino|last4=Genovese|first4=Filippo|last5=Pinetti|first5=Diego|last6=Cilli|first6=Elisabetta|last7=Carile|first7=Maria Cristina|last8=Silvestrini|first8=Sara|last9=Gabanini|first9=Gaia|last10=Arrighi|first10=Simona|last11=Buti|first11=Laura|date=2019-09-11|title=Enamel peptides reveal the sex of the Late Antique 'Lovers of Modena'|journal=Scientific Reports|language=en|volume=9|issue=1|pages=13130|doi=10.1038/s41598-019-49562-7|pmid=31511583|pmc=6739468|bibcode=2019NatSR...913130L|issn=2045-2322}}{{Cite web|url=https://io9.gizmodo.com/romanian-archaeologists-uncover-medieval-skeletons-hold-480771646|title=Romanian archaeologists uncover medieval skeletons holding hands|website=io9|date=25 April 2013 |language=en-us|access-date=2019-11-25}}
The male appears to have died due to a fight or an accident as his sternum is broken, possibly caused by a blow from a blunt object.{{Cite web|url=https://www.romania-insider.com/romanian-archeologists-uncover-romeo-juliet-medieval-couple-buried-together-with-hands-clasped|title=Romanian archeologists uncover Romeo & Juliet: medieval couple buried together with hands clasped|website=Romania Insider|date=21 April 2013|language=en|access-date=2019-11-25}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.abroadintheyard.com/skeletons-of-medieval-romeo-and-juliet-found-buried-holding-hands/|title=Skeletons of medieval 'Romeo and Juliet' found buried holding hands {{!}} Abroad in the Yard|last=Worthington|first=John|language=en-US|access-date=2019-11-25}} Another archaeologist places the blame for the man's death on a broken hip. The cause of death of the female is unclear from her skeleton. It is unlikely that she died by suicide, as that was considered a sin and would have excluded her from being buried in consecrated ground.{{Cite web|url=https://www.archaeology.wiki/blog/2013/04/24/skeletons-holding-hands-unearthed-in-romania/|title=Skeletons holding hands unearthed in Romania|date=2013-04-24|website=Archaeology Wiki|language=en-US|access-date=2019-11-25}}
