A meat slicer, also called a slicing machine, deli slicer or simply a slicer, is a tool used in butcher shops and delicatessens to slice meats, sausages, cheeses and other deli products. As compared to a simple knife, using a meat slicer requires less effort, as well as keeps the texture of food more intact.{{Cite web|title=Best Meat Slicer|url=https://tastyslicing.com/best-meat-slicers/|website=Tastyslicing.com|date=25 June 2020 |author1=Mark }} Generally, slicers can be adjusted easily to cut slices of variable thickness. Older models of meat slicer may be operated by crank, while newer ones generally use an electric motor.{{cite web|url=http://www.emiliomiti.com/restaurant-news/vintage-hand-cranked-meat-slicers-popular-among-green-chefs-and-restaurants/|title=Vintage Hand-cranked Meat Slicers Popular Among 'Green' Chefs and Restaurants|publisher=Emiliomiti LLC|access-date=2008-10-05|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080907115243/http://www.emiliomiti.com/restaurant-news/vintage-hand-cranked-meat-slicers-popular-among-green-chefs-and-restaurants/|archive-date=2008-09-07}} While the slicer is traditionally a commercial apparatus, domestic use versions are also marketed.{{cite web|url=http://www.chow.com/food-news/53592/ultimate-boy-toy/|title=Ultimate Boy Toy Meat slicers come out from behind the butcher counter|last=Chu|first=Louisa|publisher=Chow|access-date=2008-10-05}}{{cite web|url=https://www.briceaust.com.au/meat-slicers/|title=Meat Slicer|last=Australia|first=Brice|publisher=Brice|access-date=2020-03-04}}
