NuTonomy (stylized as nuTonomy) was an MIT spin-off technology startup company that made software to build self-driving cars and autonomous mobile robots. The company was founded in 2013. In August 2016, it launched its robo-taxi service (pilot project) in Singapore. In October 2017, Delphi Automotive (now Aptiv) purchased the company, which then became part of the Motional autonomous driving joint venture between Aptiv and Hyundai Motor Group.{{Cite web |last=Crowe |first=Stephen |date=2020-12-08 |title=10 major mergers & acquisitions in autonomous vehicles |url=https://www.therobotreport.com/10-major-mergers-acquisitions-autonomous-vehicles/ |access-date=2020-12-09 |website=The Robot Report}}
History
NuTonomy began testing its software on cars in early 2016. One of the cars used to test its software included Mitsubishi i-MiEV.{{Cite news|url=http://bgr.com/2016/08/25/self-driving-taxi-service-nutonomy/|title=World's first self-driving taxi is operational in Singapore, and it's not Uber|last=Smith|first=Chris|date=2016-08-25|work=BGR|access-date=2017-12-20|language=en-US}} The product is still in research and development phase.
In August 2016, it launched its autonomous taxi service using a fleet of 6 modified Renault Zoes and Mitsubishi i-MiEVs.{{cite web|url=http://techstory.in/25082016-worlds-first-self-driving-taxis-nutonomy-hit-road-singapore/|title=World's First Self-Driving Taxis 'NuTonomy' Hit the Road in Singapore - TechStory|date=25 August 2016|publisher=}}{{Cite news|url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/rahilbhagat/2016/08/25/worlds-first-self-driving-taxis-hit-singapore-roads/#39233bb86703|title=World's First Self-Driving Taxis Hit Singapore|last=Bhagat|first=Rahil|work=Forbes|access-date=2017-08-31|language=en}}
NuTonomy later signed three significant partnerships to develop its technology and service: with Grab, with Groupe PSA, which is supposed to provide the company with Peugeot 3008 SUVs, and the last one with Lyft to launch a Robo-Taxi service in Boston.{{Cite web|url=https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/22/grab-nutonomy/|title=Uber rival Grab partners with Nutonomy to test self-driving cars in Singapore {{!}} TechCrunch|last=Russell|first=Jon|date=22 September 2016 |access-date=2017-08-31}}{{Cite web|url=https://techcrunch.com/2017/05/03/nutonomy-peugeot-citroen-groupe-psa/|title=Nutonomy teams up with Peugeot-maker Groupe PSA for self-driving car tests in Singapore | work=TechCrunch |last=Russell|first=Jon|date=3 May 2017 |access-date=2017-08-31}}{{Cite web|url=https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/06/lyft-and-nutonomy-partner-to-bring-first-self-driving-lyft-service-to-boston/|title=Lyft and Nutonomy partner to bring first self-driving Lyft service to Boston {{!}} TechCrunch|last=Etherington|first=Darrell|date=6 June 2017 |access-date=2017-08-31}}

Technology
NuTonomy-fitted cars use "formal logic" to decide motion, maneuverability, and speed.{{cite web|url=http://www.recode.net/2016/5/17/11689064/nutonomy-self-driving-car-singapore-test|title=We rode in the self-driving cab that will hit Singapore streets in 2019|first=Johana|last=Bhuiyan|date=17 May 2016|publisher=}} The software guides a car on how to plan its motion through an environment.{{cite news|url=https://www.wsj.com/articles/car-makers-hunger-for-self-driving-tech-1458811804|title=Car Makers Hunger for Self-Driving Tech|first=Mike|last=Ramsey|date=24 March 2016|publisher=|newspaper=Wall Street Journal}}
