Geography

The harbor of Lorient constitutes the mouths of the rivers Blavet, Scorff and the Ter in the Atlantic Ocean. It has several port facilities, including marinas but also the infrastructure of the Lorient Submarine Base. Oriented northeast-southwest, it has an island in its center, Île Saint-Michel, and communicates with the Atlantic Ocean to the south by two passes, the Passe du Sud and the Passe de l'Ouest, separated by reefs.{{Cite book |last=Joanne |first=Adolphe |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=L03HmE1_kg8C |title=Dictionnaire des communes de la France |publisher=Hachette |year=1864 |pages=1172 |language=fr}} Its northern part is more specifically called the harbor of Pen-Mané while that to the south is called the harbor of Port-Louis.{{Cite book |last=Cumberlidge |first=Peter |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ZoqcEAAAQBAJ |title=Cruising West France: A Yachting Companion |date=2022-11-18 |publisher=Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson Ltd |isbn=978-1-78679-466-6 |pages=102 |language=en}}
