{{Short description|Roguing is the act of identifying and removing undesirable plants from the agricultural fields}}
In agriculture, roguing is the act of identifying and removing plants with undesirable characteristics from agricultural fields. Rogues are removed from the fields to preserve the quality of the crop being grown. Plants being removed may be diseased, of an unwanted variety, or undesirable for other reasons.{{Cite web|url=http://oregonstate.edu/potatoes/ROGUING.pdf|title=Roguing seed potatoes|last=Mosley|first=A|author2=Gutbrod, McMorran|date=2001-05-16|publisher=Oregon State University|accessdate=2009-06-25}} For example, to ensure that the crop retains its integrity in terms of certain physical attributes, such as color and shape, individual plants that exhibit differing traits may be removed.{{Cite web|url=http://www.extension.org/article/18447/print/|title=Selection and Roguing in Organic Seed Production|last=Colley|first=Micaela|date=2009-01-19|publisher=Organic Seed Alliance|accessdate=2009-06-25|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://archive.today/20130414163617/http://www.extension.org/article/18447/print/|archivedate=2013-04-14}} Roguing is particularly important when growing seed crops, to prevent plants with undesirable characteristics from propagating into subsequent generations.Agricultural Seed Production By Raymond A.
