History

Roundwood has a connection with two former Presidents of Ireland. Seán T. O'Kelly (1882–1966) lived at Roundwood Park, an early 19th-century country house that was subsequently "remodelled in castle style".{{cite web|url = https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/16401803/roundwood-park-roundwood-roundwood-co-wicklow | website = buildingsofireland.ie | publisher = National Inventory of Architectural Heritage | title = Roundwood Park, Roundwood, Roundwood, Wicklow | accessdate = 29 December 2024 }} Erskine Hamilton Childers (1905–1974) is buried in Derrylossary Church of Ireland churchyard near the village.{{cite web| url = https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/16401804/derrylossary-church-ballinacorbeg-wicklow | website = buildingsofireland.ie | publisher = National Inventory of Architectural Heritage | title = Derrylossary Church, Ballinacorbeg, Wicklow | accessdate = 29 December 2024 }} This Church of Ireland (Anglican) church was built {{circa|1820}} and is now disused. The local Catholic church, the Church of Saint Laurence O'Toole, was built between 1867 and 1871 and faces onto Roundwood's main street.{{cite web|url = https://www.buildingsofireland.ie/buildings-search/building/16309003/catholic-church-of-saint-laurence-otoole-togher-more-roundwood-wicklow | website = buildingsofireland.ie | publisher = National Inventory of Architectural Heritage | title = Catholic Church of Saint Laurence O'Toole, Togher More, Roundwood, Wicklow | accessdate = 29 December 2024 }} Both churches are included in the Record of Protected Structures maintained by Wicklow County Council.{{citation|url = https://www.wicklow.ie/Portals/0/adam/Documents/sXx7zsHbtEmnlSzlVIjOow/Link/Appendix%204%20-%20Record%20of%20Protected%20Structures.pdf | publisher = Wicklow County Council | website = wicklow.ie | title = Wicklow County Development Plan 2022-2028 - Record of Protected Structures | date = October 2022 | accessdate = 29 December 2024 | pages = 28, 29 }} Several other structures in the area, including several buildings associated with the Vartry Reservoir, are also listed as protected structures.
