A selenonic acid is an organoselenium compound containing the {{chem2|\sSeO3H}} functional group. The formula of selenonic acids is {{chem2|R\sSe(\dO)2\sOH}}, where R is organyl group. Selenonic acids are the selenium analogs of sulfonic acids.{{GoldBookRef|title=selenonic acids|file=S05576}} Examples of the acid are rare. Benzeneselenonic acid {{chem2|PhSeO3H}} (where Ph stands for phenyl) is a white solid. It can be prepared by the oxidation of benzeneselenol.{{cite journal |doi=10.1021/acs.joc.1c01369|title=One-Pot Synthesis of Aryl Selenonic Acids and Some Unexpected Byproducts |year=2021 |last1=Sands |first1=Kai N. |last2=Gelfand |first2=Benjamin S. |last3=Back |first3=Thomas G. |journal=The Journal of Organic Chemistry |volume=86 |issue=15 |pages=9938–9944 |pmid=34269577 |s2cid=235959087 |hdl=1880/113707 |hdl-access=free}}
