A skin bridge is a penile skin adhesion. It most commonly occurs as a consequence of an improperly healed circumcision, being formed when the inner lining of the remaining foreskin attaches to another part of the penis (normally the glans) as the cut heals.{{cite journal |author=Gracely-Kilgore KA |title=Penile adhesion: the hidden complication of circumcision |journal=Nurse Pract |volume=9 |issue=5 |pages=22–4 |date=May 1984 |pmid=6728346 |doi= 10.1097/00006205-198405000-00005|s2cid=25249671 }} While less common, skin bridges can also occur in uncircumcised men{{cite web |url=http://www.male-initiation.net/skinbridges.html |title=Skin Bridges |access-date=2011-06-20}} due to difficulty of cleaning, resulting in buildups of smegma underneath wide skin bridges, but this is typically a minor inconvenience and does not lead to further issues.{{Cite web |url=http://my.clevelandclinic.org/childrens-hospital/health-info/diseases-conditions/hic_penile-adhesions-and-skin-bridges |title=Penile Adhesions and Skin Bridges |access-date=2017-02-02}} However, in more severe cases, this condition can result in painful erections, sometimes requiring surgical correction.{{cite journal
