the3six5
The3six5 was a global collaborative storytelling project involving 365 people – one for each day of the year – writing about something that was happening in the world that day and how it related to them.{{cite web |url=https://mashable.com/2009/12/24/news-media-content-trends/?europe=true#lKLErx5wSaq4 |title=10 News Media Content Trends to Watch in 2010 |date=December 24, 2009 |publisher=Mashable |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20181104211229/https://mashable.com/2009/12/24/news-media-content-trends/?europe=true |archive-date=November 4, 2018 |url-status=live}}
It was created by Len Kendall and Daniel Honigman,{{cite web|title=About the3six5|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/the3six5|accessdate=14 June 2012}} and began on January 1, 2010.{{cite web |url=http://mentalfloss.com/article/23450/the3six5com-project-coming-soon-really-small-screen-near-you |title=the3six5.com project - coming soon to a really small screen near you |date=December 8, 2009 |publisher=Mental Floss |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20181104151830/http://mentalfloss.com/article/23450/the3six5com-project-coming-soon-really-small-screen-near-you |archive-date=November 4, 2018 |url-status=live}} The idea was to create a crowdsourced journal of the year from the perspective of 365 individuals from around the world. The project ran for three years.
Format and history
Volunteers from all corners of the world chose a date based on availability. Every day of the year, a different person would write a 365-word entry about his or her experience and thoughts from that day. Volunteers came from all walks of life and included news anchor Ann Curry,{{cite web|title=October 2, 2010: Ann Curry|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/october-2-2010-ann-curry|accessdate=14 June 2012}} advertising legend Alex Bogusky,{{cite web|title=November 5, 2010: Alex Bogusky|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/november-5-2010-alex-bogusky|accessdate=14 June 2012}} The Onion’s web editor Baratunde Thurston,{{cite web|title=June 18, 2010: Baratunde Thurston|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/june-18-2010-baratunde-thurston|accessdate=14 June 2012}} interestingness curator Maria Popova,{{cite web|title=February 9, 2010: Maria Popova|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/february-9-2010-maria-popova|accessdate=14 June 2012}} online performance artist, composer and humorist Ze Frank.{{cite web|title=January 1, 2011: Ze Frank|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/january-1-2010-ze-frank|accessdate=14 June 2012}} and Chicago-based celebrity chef Rick Gresh{{cite web|title=August 25, 2010: Rick Gresh|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/august-25-2010-rick-gresh|accessdate=25 July 2012}} Many of the posts exist at the intersection of history and biography as they share how world events relate to individuals. The project ran for over three years and produced over 1000 unique contributions. The collection of content originally existed on a now-defunct blogging platform called Posterous. The archive of the project now lives on Squarespace.
Volunteers can participate in the project only once.
In 2011, 12 editors were selected to manage the project on a daily basis for a month. The 12 editors were Daniel Timothy Edmundson, Jessica Mahajan, Dan Weingrod, Amanda Miller, Tim Dreyer, Mary Myers, Jenn Zuko Boughn, Bill Green, Stephanie Florence, Jose Callejas, Andreana Drencheva and Helene Kwong.{{cite web|title=The3six5 2011 Editor List|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/the3six5-2011-editor-list|accessdate=14 June 2012}} The editors for 2012 are Andreana Drencheva, Jessica Mahajan, Karen Hong, Peter Combs, Christianne Weaver, Amanda Kasper, Jose Callejas, Tim Dreyer, John Pajarillaga and Marcus Gilmer.{{cite web|title=The3six5 Editor List Finalized|url=http://the3six5.posterous.com/the3six5-2012-editor-list-finalized|accessdate=14 June 2012}}
