Thlaspi, or pennycress,{{PLANTS|id=THLAS|taxon=Thlaspi|accessdate=9 July 2015}} is a genus of herbs of temperate regions of the Eurasian continent. They occur in Central and South Europe, South-West Asia and two species are endemic to China. The Thlaspi has been proven to be a hyperaccumulator of heavy metals such as zinc and cadmium and therefore may be used in phytoremediation initiatives.{{cite book | author=International Society of Soil Science | title=Proceedings of the 16th World Congress of Soil Science on CD-ROM. | publisher=ISSS-AISS-IBG-SICS | year=1998 | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=1TsbAQAAMAAJ | access-date=18 May 2021 | page=703 |quote=It is proposed that phytoremediation using Thlaspi caerulescens would be entirely feasible for low levels of cadmium.}}
