tidal strait
{{Short description|Narrow seaway connecting two bodies of water}}
A tidal strait is a strait through which a tidal current flows. Tidal currents are usually unidirectional but sometimes are bidirectional. Tidal straits, though they are narrow seaways, are technically not rivers. They are frequently of tectonic origin. In them, currents develop because of elevation differences between the water basins at both ends.{{cite web | url=http://basin.earth.ncu.edu.tw/Course/SeminarII/abstract2013_1/20140117_2_3_tidal%20depositional%20systems%20in%20the%20rock%20record.pdf | title=Tidal depositional systems in the rock record: A review and new insights | publisher=basin.earth.ncu.edu.tw | date=April 9, 2012 | accessdate=27 May 2019 | author=Longhitano, Sergio G.; Mellere, Donatella; Steel, Ronald J.; Ainsworth, R.
