tower array
{{Short description|Arrangement of multiple radio towers}}
A tower array is an arrangement of multiple radio towers which are mast radiators in a phased array.{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=XePEDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA129 |title=Broadcasting Journalism |author=Jacoby Barrera |year=2019 |isbn=9781839472893 |pages=129–132 |publisher=EDTECH}} They were originally developed as ground-based tracking radars.{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=4LtmjGNwOPIC |title=Introduction to RF Propagation |author=John S. Tower arrays are used to constitute a directional antenna of a mediumwave or longwave radio station.
The number of towers in a tower array can vary.
In many arrays all towers have the same height, but there are also arrays of towers of different height.{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=K9N1TVhf82YC&pg=PA759 |title=National Association of Broadcasters Engineering Handbook: NAB Engineering Handbook |author1=Graham A. For directional antennas with fixed radiation pattern, linear arrangements are preferred, while for switchable directional patterns (usually for daytime groundwave versus nighttime skywave), square arrangements are chosen.{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=m5DIroWLw2EC&pg=PA411 |title=Radio-electronic Transmission Fundamentals |author=B.
