Triprene is an insecticide that is no longer in use. It is an insect growth regulator introduced by Zoecon Corporation (now Sandoz AG) under the "Altorick" trademark,{{cite book |last1=Tomlin |first1=Clive |title=The Pesticide Manual Incorporating the Agrochemicals Handbook |date=1994 |publisher=The Royal Society of Chemistry |location=State Library of Western Australia |isbn=0-948404-79-5 |edition=Tenth}} registered 1974 and not renewed, expiring in 1980.{{cite web |title=ALTORICK Trademark |url=https://trademarks.justia.com/809/79/altorick-80979224.html |website=trademarks.justia.com |access-date=27 August 2024}} The EPA records no registration, now or past.{{cite web |title=Triprene - Chemical Details |url=https://ordspub.epa.gov/ords/pesticides/f?p=CHEMICALSEARCH:3:0::NO:21,3,31,7,12,25:P3_XCHEMICAL_ID:4170# |publisher=United States Environmental Protection Agency |access-date=8 September 2024}}

Triprene is nontoxic to mammals, non-carcinogenic, not a human endocrine disruptor, and not neurotoxic. To fish, it may be of moderate toxicity.{{cite journal |last1=Lewis |first1=Kathleen A. |last2=Tzilivakis |first2=John |last3=Warner |first3=Douglas J. |last4=Green |first4=Andrew |title=An international database for pesticide risk assessments and management |journal=Human and Ecological Risk Assessment|date=18 May 2016 |volume=22 |issue=4 |pages=1050–1064 |doi=10.1080/10807039.2015.1133242 |bibcode=2016HERA...22.1050L |hdl=2299/17565 |url=http://sitem.herts.ac.uk/aeru/ppdb/en/Reports/2596.htm |access-date=25 August 2024|hdl-access=free }}

Triprene is a juvenile hormone mimic.{{cite web |title=Triprene data sheet |url=http://www.bcpcpesticidecompendium.org/triprene.html |access-date=27 August 2024}} It disrupts insects' development by endocrine disruption, causing incomplete pupation and sterile adult insects.

Effectiveness

Triprene was tested against the similar kinoprene and hydroprene. Kinoprene was the most effective against long tailed mealybug and solanum mealybug, hydroprene and triprene both needing multiple applications. All controlled coffee brown scale.{{cite journal |last1=Hamlen |first1=Ronald A. |title=Insect Growth Regulator Control of Longtailed Mealybug, Hemispherical Scale, and Phenacoccus solani on Ornamental Foliage Plants |journal=Journal of Economic Entomology |date=1 April 1975 |volume=68 |issue=2 |pages=223–226 |doi=10.1093/jee/68.2.223 }}
