request to edit

I attempted to revise and update the Wikipedia page for Paolo Boffetta with accurate information. However, after submitting my revision, the original content was restored. Could you please let me know what type of information you need to accept my changes? Seyyedsalehi.M (talk) 15:52, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

:Do you have a connection with this individual? Someone claiming to be them attempted to edit the article previously.

:You are removing sourced information from the article. You say it's "incorrect" but do not say why. If the sources are inaccurately summarized, please detail the errors on the article talk page(Talk:Paolo Boffetta). If the sources are accurately summarized, but in error, you need to either take that up with the sources themselves first to get them to issue corrections, or offer more current sources with more current information(and possibly explains why the prior sources are incorrect). 331dot (talk) 15:55, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

::Thank you for your explanation. I know about him because he is a well-known researcher in my field, and I am also aware of the issues discussed in the text that I want to modify. Following your explanation, I will reorganize the page to arrange all that information in the correct chronological order. Seyyedsalehi.M (talk) 16:44, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

:::Has he contacted you about this? Someone claiming to be him attempted to do what it is you tried to do. 331dot (talk) 16:55, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

::::Actually, while I was reviewing his information, I noticed some misleading statements. I understood that he needs to update his page—not just for this section, but for an overall revision and to add new updates as well. I reached out to him, and it seems he attempted to make changes but was unsuccessful. He then asked if I could revise it for him. After your explanation, I will propose a new, more accurate version while keeping the existing references and adding new ones. Seyyedsalehi.M (talk) 17:27, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

Aguarhz

Hi, would it be possible for you to tell the user what they have to do in order to get unblocked? I'm not sure your review comment was that helpful, and the user seems to have taken it quite badly by blanking their page. Copyright can be really difficult to understand, and it'd be a shame to lose a good user over this Kowal2701 (talk) 15:01, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

:{{u|Kowal2701}} Copyright is a serious matter with potential legal implications to Wikipedia, so it must be taken seriously. I regret ruffling feathers but I stand by the serious nature of my response. They will need to demonstrate a basic understanding of copyright to be unblocked. 331dot (talk) 16:22, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

Draft - Doctrine (startup)

Hello @331dot, Thanks for this maintenance work on the AFC, especially for the responses you provide to new contributors on the project page. I would like to ask you to proofread the Draft:Doctrine (startup). The article seems to me to be admissible with sources focused on Les Echos, Le Monde (etc.) from 2016 to 2024. The wait is long being autistic (apart from the COI). Thx. Condottiero dei tempi moderni (talk) 18:04, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

:I am very reluctant to review drafts on request, as once it became known that I was willing to do so I would be inundated with requests to review drafts, because everyone would like their draft to be reviewed quickly. Small edit to a Protected Page

Hi.

Apologies for the intrusion, but I really didn't know how else to flag this mistake.

I have never sought to have anything on Wikipedia edited, but felt that this was important. Having the correct and up-to-date information, particularly given the subject matter, is very important and could potentially save lives.

I noticed a small inconsistency on the page containing Emergency Numbers in Europe, specifically "Ireland"; (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emergency_telephone_numbers#Europe)

The text in the NOTES column currently reads, "SMS messages can be sent to 112 after registration by sending a text message with the word 'Register' to 112. 911 redirects to 112."

The requirement to register to use the 112SMS service was removed at the end of 2021.

Also, people that require the emergency in Ireland are advised to use the 112 or 999, as they are more reliable. Issues with redirection could occur if someone rang 911, so it's use is discouraged. I think it would be more correct to remove this sentence.

The text in the NOTES column should only read, "SMS messages can be sent to 112."

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Speedy deletion nomination of RIP (film)

Hello 331dot,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged RIP (film) for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want RIP (film) to be deleted, you can [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title={{urlencode:Talk:RIP (film)}}&action=edit§ion=new&preload=Template:Hangon_preload&preloadtitle=This+page+should+not+be+speedy+deleted+because...+ contest this deletion], but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

File:Output-onlinepngtools-2.png

Hi 331dot. Do you remember if :File:Output-onlinepngtools-2.png was the logo file you were discussing at :User talk:Vlachopouloss#September 2024. This file is actually too simple to be eligible for copyright protection under US copyright law per :c:COM:TOO US and didn't really need to be uploaded as non-free content. I'm not sure what the uploader's "NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO USE THIS" on the file's page is supposed to mean, but this file could certainly be relicensed as {{tlx|PD-ineligible-USonly}} for local use on Wikipedia and most likely even relicensed as {{tlx|PD-logo}} and moved to Commons per :c:COM:TOO Greece. So, from a copyright standpoint this logo seems fine for Wikipedia and Commons, and isn't really eligible for speedy deletion per :WP:F5. The logo is no longer being used in any articles because :HellasCar was just deleted per :WP:G7. If "HellasCar" was created by the same person that uploaded the file, then perhaps the G7 request should also apply to the file. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:54, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

:Probably. In that discussion they say that they don't wish to license the file to be used freely- but I don't know if they can do that if it's that simple an image. 331dot (talk) 09:11, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

::I don't believe the logo is copyrightable; it can be trademarked, but I doubt it's eligible for copyright protection, at least not in the US. Since they uploaded the file themselves, seem to be its author and the file isn't being used, it probably can still be deleted per :WP:G7; none of the CSD criteria for files seem to apply except maybe for :WP:F4 ({{tlx|nsd}}), but the source for this is easily found online. If nothing is done about the F5 tag, the file might be deleted, but that depends on the admin who looks at it. In addition, someone else could convert the file to a PD license. Such things sometimes happen when those reviewing files tagged for deletion per F5 feel the file can be kept if relicensed as PD. Would you as an admin feel OK deleting this per G7 or would you want the uploader to explictly request such a thing? -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:13, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

:::I've deleted it as G11/UPE. Regards to both, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:26, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

::::::The reason for your rage is not relevant. We all have frustrating experiences here, and sometimes things may make us angry, but we don't all get blocked because we deal with it appropriately. Edit Request: Removal of Non-Career Personal Information

Hello, I am Lamon Archey and I am requesting assistance in edits to my Wikipedia biography. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamon_Archey

There are several details in my article that are not relevant to my public career I would like to have removed. I had them removed in 2023 and was just informed by my team that the personal information outweighs my career information. WP:BLP states that Wikipedia should avoid excessive focus on private life details that do not contribute to public notability. We’re attempting to keep a level of anonymity to my personal life, even though there are articles, the articles sited are also related to my soap opera career, more than my other notable achievements.

Requested Removals:

1. Marriage details and spouse's name – This is not relevant to my entertainment career.

2. Family relationships (cousin, parents, upbringing details) – These personal details are unnecessary for a career-based biography.

3. Unrelated job history (carpentry, veterinary technician work) – These do not contribute to my notability in entertainment.

I am requesting these changes to keep the article focused on my career and public work, in line with Wikipedia’s policies.

I appreciate the your time and consideration in reviewing this request and honoring my wishes.

Thank you,

— Lamon Archey (TheRealLamonArchey) TheRealLamonArchey (talk) 23:40, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

Continuation of question

Yes, If you review the edit history, you’ll notice that the IP user made an edit adding information about S.W.A.T to the page. However, I found this to be irrelevant to Israel's Yasam unit, as S.W.A.T is an American term. My edit aimed to correct this misinformation, yet I’m confused as to why my edit was reverted while the user's edit—whether intentionally or not—was reinstated despite being factually incorrect. Could you explain why this decision was made? Averytiredturkey3 (talk) 19:30, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – April 2025

question

Hello,

I posted the proposal on the Village Pump as it's generally a place for such discussions. Could you clarify if there's a specific guideline that applies to proposals related? I appreciate your help in guiding me to the right place. -- 41.107.103.100 (talk) 09:57, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

:If you are User talk:Cipher Nox, remember to log in when posting. Please see that user talk page for more information; an account must be 30 days old with 500 substantive edits(i.e. this does not include edits made simply to reach 500) in order to make any edit to any page on Wikipedia related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, including the war in Gaza. If you are Cipher Nox, you are far from 500 edits. IP users aren't allowed to contribute about it at all.

:Wikipedia does not take positions in conflicts. There are editors here with strong feelings on each side of the conflict; the conflict will not be solved here. 331dot (talk) 10:02, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

::I understand that Wikipedia has strict guidelines around conflict-related topics, but I would like to clarify that my proposal is based on humanitarian solidarity, not on taking sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Wikipedia has previously shown support for human rights issues (e.g., Ukraine, free speech), so it seems inconsistent to claim that it can’t take a stand on this issue, especially when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is at the heart of the proposal. Could you please clarify why the policy is applied differently in this case?

::Thank you for your time. -- 41.107.103.100 (talk) 10:06, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

:::I recall Wikipedia taking public stands against laws that could affect how Wikipedia operates; I don't recall it taking a stand on the war in Ukraine(but if you say we did, I believe you). As I've indicated, there are special rules when making any edit to any page about the Arab-Israel conflict generally. It's not your specific proposal that I'm disputing, however, I'm saying that due to the special rules, you are unable to propose it. Someone with an account that is 30 days old with 500 substantive edits needs to do so. 331dot (talk) 10:12, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

:::I will say, frankly, that there are those who would see-rightly or wrongly- what you propose as taking a side. 331dot (talk) 10:15, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Thanks for the reply. I just want to clarify a few things.

::::I'm aware of the EC restriction and I'm not here to argue the ArbCom policy, I get that it exists and I know I don't meet the threshold. What I'm asking about is where this kind of proposal can be taken, or who can take it forward.

::::Now, about "Wikipedia does not take positions" respectfully, that's not entirely accurate.

::::* The Wikimedia Foundation made an official statement saying it "stands with its communities around the world in defending free knowledge" in response to threats from the Russian government.([https://wikimediafoundation.org/news/2022/03/03/wikimedia-foundation-stands-with-communities-defending-free-knowledge/ link])

::::* Ukrainian Wikipedia used a custom logo with the Ukrainian flag as a form of solidarity.

::::* Wikipedia went dark globally in protest during the SOPA/PIPA controversy, a clear political move.

::::* There's been support for LGBT rights, free speech, privacy, and access to knowledge all of which are values that involve moral and humanitarian positions.

::::So yes, Wikipedia has taken sides before, when it aligned with defending people and principles, not governments. That's all I was proposing here. Not some political manifesto, just a moral, humanitarian show of solidarity. If someone wants to twist that into "taking a side" that's on them.

::::And I get your note about how some people might see it as biased. Honestly, there are people who see anything as biased, but if we avoid standing up for anything just because of potential bad-faith interpretations, then we're not being neutral. We're being cowardly.

::::I'm not trying to bypass rules, just hoping someone who does meet the criteria can carry the idea forward. Rules aside, I trust that those who truly believe in humanitarian values will find the right channel for this.

::::Thanks again. -- 105.103.111.169 (talk) 10:31, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::I didn't deny anything that you said about prior actions. Your options in this case are to

:::::# make 500 substantive edits from your account

:::::# appeal to ArbCom to be permitted to make such a proposal(I think that unlikely to succeed, but it's an option)

:::::Anything else would violate either the contentious topic restrictions or policies like WP:GAME or WP:MEAT. 331dot (talk) 10:46, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

::::::What makes you say it's unlikely to succeed? Is humanitarian solidarity with Palestinians, who are currently unable to access or contribute to Wikipedia due to the ongoing conflict, somehow less important than the blackout and support shown during SOPA/PIPA, or the Ukrainian cause that the Wikimedia Foundation openly backed? Or is this a case of selective advocacy based on geography and identity? -- 41.104.216.143 (talk) 20:08, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::::If you want to appeal to ArbCom, do it. I could be wrong. I'm not going to say any more as I don't want to see you blocked for violating the restrictions by pursuing this line of inquiry further. 331dot (talk) 20:56, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

An unblock

I read your comments at User talk:Stitchall, and the editor's responses, and I've removed the block. It is good to see an administrator who is willing to take the trouble to help an inexperienced editor to understand and address the reasons for the block, which so many don't do. 😇 I'm afraid that you put me to shame in that respect: looking back at my messages on that talk page I think I could have done much better. 🫤 JBW (talk) 14:27, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

Harold Jordan

You removed my edit, where I corrected a misnaming of my own grandfather (the father of the actor Albert Patrick Jordan), and claimed that his being my grandfather didn't give me the right to know what his name was. This is ridiculous. You got the idea that he was called Albert from Paddy's obituary in The Guardian, but Albert was Harold's brother and Paddy's (and my mother's) uncle. As I recall, Albert died in WWI, which will be why Harold gave Paddy the first name Albert.

It's conceivable that Harold had Albert as a middle name but he's right there in all the censuses as Harold Jordan. Unfortunately I can't show you that Harold is Patrick's father in the census until the 1931 census is published: do I have to spend £30 or whatever it is now to buy Paddy's birth certificate, or his and Auntie Marge's wedding certificate, to prove it to you? Will you accept his birth certificate as proof? 37.152.226.226 (talk) 19:51, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

:That's not what I said at all. I said that we need a published source that can be verified. I believe you; that's not the issue, but any random IP address can come here and make a claim.

:Government documents that are not publicly accessible cannot be used as a source.

:If you are saying the given information is not what sources in the article say, or isn't in them, we can deal with that. If the sources are accurately summarized, but in error, it becomes harder. 331dot (talk) 20:01, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

::The source is accurately summarised but in error, yes. So what do we do now? It's perpetuating a mistake. I can prove that it's a mistake by producing the government documents, but since the Free BMD site seems to have been taken down, none will be publicly available until the 1931 census goes live in 2032, although the 1921 census - which *is* publicly available, more or less - shows Harold Jordan, Regimental Sergeant Major, and his wife Margaret, a few years before first Uncle Paddy and then my mother were born. I can post the information on my own family history website if you like so you can use that as a link, although it's mainly concerned with my father's adoptive family and their activities in the Far East. 37.152.226.226 (talk) 20:43, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

:::Like I said, that becomes harder to deal with. I think you said it was The Guardian; you could ask them to correct their reporting- the birth certificate would probably work for them. Or you could get them or another source to write a new story with the correct information.

:::A family history website is not ideal, as that would probably not be a reliable source, unless an editorial staff or editor oversees its content.

:::I don't know what you must be feeling, but I'm sure this is frustrating for you. I'm sorry for that, but we have certain requirements here. I might suggest that you seek other viewpoints at the Help Desk. 331dot (talk) 21:05, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Sorry, I missed your reply and parallel posted you. I could contact the Grauniad, yes. They have a horrible reputation in re accuracy - they're known as the Grauniad because they once misspelled their own name. But also see my post in re. Free BMD, which confirms that Paddy's mother was Margaret Barker and that Margaret Barker was married to Harold Jordan. 37.152.226.226 (talk) 13:28, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

::::PS I made a mistake too, though - Albert wasn't the one of Paddy's uncles who died in WWI, that was Frank. Albert died in 1980. 37.152.226.226 (talk) 14:13, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

::::OK, I had a word with the Guardian and they've corrected the Obituary and changed the name to Harold, so you can use that as your reference for the correction. 37.152.226.226 (talk) 19:24, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::Can you link to that? Or did they correct the source that's already in the article? 331dot (talk) 19:35, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

::::::They've corrected the actual online obituary. https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2020/feb/10/patrick-jordan-obituary

::::::I see they've slightly changed it to saying that Harold met Margaret when she was a cook in the officer's mess. That may well be true. The way I heard it, though, was that he "met" her while stationed in Ireland (where she may very well have been an army cook), then when he was back home in England one of his soldiers called him and said "Harold! There's a woman at the gates with a baby in her arms and she says it's yours!" But it turned out to be a highly successful marriage even so. 37.152.226.226 (talk) 12:01, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::::If the obituary is now correct, that could be used as a source for the proper name. 331dot (talk) 12:14, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

:::OK, for some reason Free BMD wasn't showing up on Google the other night but it is now.

:::The Guardian obituary correctly states that Albert Patrick Jordan was born in Harrow on 10th October 1923, and that his mother's name was Margaret.

:::Go to freebmd.org.uk. This is a free and public site which can be accessed by anybody.

:::Search under Births for Albert P Jordan, born in the Sep-Dec quarter of 1923 and registered in Hendon, which is the registry office which covers Harrow.

:::You will see from the BMD entry that his mother's maiden name was Barker.

:::Now search under Marriages for Harold Jordan, married in Farnham in the Sep-Dec quarter of 1912.

:::You will see that his wife's surname was Barker.

:::Now search under Marriages for Margaret Barker, married in Farnham in the Sep-Dec quarter of 1912.

:::You will see that her husband's surname was Jordan.

:::FreeBMD therefore confirms that Margaret Barker was married to Harold Jordan.

:::I also checked and between 1890 and 1930 there are *no* listings for an *Albert* Jordan marrying a woman with the surname Barker (and we know from his birth listing that Paddy's mother's maiden name was Barker - as, indeed, I already knew that it was because Margaret Barker was my gran).

:::Is that public enough for you? FreeBMD is, like it says on the tin, free and public. 37.152.226.226 (talk) 13:23, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

::::It seems to me conceivable that could work. I'm unsure what the provenance of the site you mention is, but no red flags stick out at me. 331dot (talk) 14:34, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

Thank you and moving forward

Thank you for assuming good faith and unblocking me. I assure you I will be following all the Wikipedia policies from now on. To start with paid editing disclosure, I want to move the articles that I have been paid for, to draft space and then work on them through AFC. With a paid editing disclosure on the talk page of the article. Does this seem like the right way forward? If this is right, can you please tell how I can request for pages to be moved to draft space? HRShami (talk) HRShami (talk) 03:55, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

:I don't think you necessarily need to move every article you ever created for payment to draft space; if you want to, however, you should be able to do so yourself as you are autoconfirmed and then add {{subst:AFC draft}}(without the coding I have to suppress its function on this page) to the top so you can submit it for a review. I highly doubt anyone will question you doing so.

:Instead of moving your articles to draft space, you may propose edits on the talk page using the edit request process(click for instructions). There is also the edit request wizard that can facilitate edit requests. If you do that, I suggest that you propose incremental changes, one at a time, to increase the chances a volunteer will want to invest their time in reviewing them; longer requests means more time to review, which reduces the chances of a timely review. 331dot (talk) 07:45, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

::Noted. So I should just put the paid template on the talk pages of the articles that I have been paid for?HRShami (talk) HRShami (talk) 08:50, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

:::You should put {{Connected contributor (paid)| User1 = HRShami|employer= Name of employer |client=Name of client }} on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 08:55, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

::::Thank you. HRShami (talk) 09:38, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

:::::{{tpw}} Sticking my oar in here, sorry 331. ... {{u|HRShami}}, I've been quite sure for several years that at least some of your edits were WP:UPE, so it's good to see you commit to following policy and practice from now on. I think your suggestion of moving all affected pages to draft space is a particularly good one – that would allow other editors to review what you've done, and make or propose changes they think necessary. Yes, they could do that in mainspace too, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect that they will ("Undisclosed editing by users receiving compensation creates an unreasonable burden on volunteer editors"). "Quarantining" suspected UPE in draft space is common practice here, but it would look better if it came from you. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:57, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

  • Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
  • An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{t|sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
  • An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.

What do you make of this?

Hi, can I bother you, with your admin and AfC hats on, for a second opinion on something?

As you know, {{no ping|Icrisatcommunications}} is a UPE who was trying to create Draft:Dr Himanshu Pathak on their boss, and got themselves blocked (and now TPA yanked). A few days after that, a new user, {{no ping|John David ICR}}, was registered and picked up the baton. My first thought was to block them as sock, but just now another user, {{no ping|Mohdfareeduddin}}, has also appeared on the scene to edit the draft, and I think they are actually the same individual who operated the blocked Icrisatcommunications account, because in one of Icrisatcommunications's appeals they asked for the account to be renamed to 'MFareed_at_ICRISAT' (MFareed ~= Mohdfareeduddin). However, this Mohdfareeduddin account (which clearly is from the same organisation, because their entire edit history consists of edits to International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics) wasn't registered to get around the Icrisatcommunications block, it was registered way back in 2013.

BTW, John David ICR has made PAID disclosure, but Mohdfareeduddin hasn't. In any case, both are editing directly International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics so they're clearly contravening the rules on paid editors.

I'm kind of tempted to block the lot as socks/meats of each other (I guess tagging Mohdfareeduddin as the master). Or is that too heavy-handed, do you think? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:52, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

:I suppose Fareed could have had a personal account and then created an account for his job; but once he was blocked on his business account he shouldn't have used his other account, so that's still socking. The other account should be blocked whether it's sock or meat. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

::Okay, thanks. I'll go and block the two open accounts. If they choose to appeal, that'll then give us a chance to dig deeper into this. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:34, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Clarification on COI/PAID Disclosure

Hello 331dot,

Thank you for promptly processing my username change request and unblocking my account.

I would like to clarify the apparent contradiction regarding my COI/PAID disclosures. To confirm clearly:

  • I am editing in my professional capacity as part of my responsibilities at Mahamudra Collective, the production company involved with Rahat Mahajan’s projects.
  • However, I am not directly paid specifically for my edits on Wikipedia; editing is part of my general professional role and responsibilities at the company.

I initially stated this as "not paid" because I misunderstood Wikipedia’s specific definition under WP:PAID, thinking it meant direct financial compensation specifically for Wikipedia edits. Now I understand that editing within a professional capacity—whether directly compensated or not—still falls under the broader definition of "paid editing."

Accordingly, I have updated my user page disclosure clearly to reflect this. I hope this clarifies the confusion adequately.

Thank you again for your assistance and patience.

Question

I'm left with a conundrum here, seeking advice. The edits in question: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Girl_Is_Crying_in_Her_Latte&oldid=1292487449] [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mad!&oldid=1292486964]

I'm dealing with another editor who, in two different album pages for the same band, edited in that they're the band's N'th album, strictly because the sources that are currently listed in the article back them up. However, those sources only give, at most, passing mentions to which album it is. If left unresolved, there is a timeline discrepancy in:

  • the band main page
  • band members' pages
  • the band's template page
  • infobox chronologies

...and who knows where else. I think the reasoning behind several sources being a bit off is because they're including both a film soundtrack and the corresponding original recordings as two "studio albums". But that reasoning doesn't seem to be articulated in the sources.

I bring this up here because I saw that you've personally warned this user about edit warring before, and even though they "invited" me to revert it back if I add sources, based on their history it feels like an invitation to be accused of edit warring. Since your warning, they're removing other user's warnings, which is fine on it's own, but in a recent case they resorted to ad hominem by labelling the warnings as "partisan", so I'm not about to engage directly.

Any advice? It's a small thing, but it just bothers me that now there's inconsistent info about the album timeline, and I don't know how to fix this without causing a article' talk page to devolve into a bunch of unnecessary drama. I also have no idea if the user's general behavior is something to bring up to general administration. Fundgy (talk) 08:15, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

:Since they have removed warnings, then they have seen their user talk page even though they don't seem to comment there much. If the sources in the article don't say what is claimed, and the user is doing math based on dates or other information, that is original research going beyond what sources say. If you have a fear that engaging with the user will lead to edit warring, you could go to WP:ANEW. 331dot (talk) 08:35, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

::Does counting 1, 2, 3 really count as original research? Rough. Either wat, it's a bit more complicated than that. For the 2025 album, there are sources that list the "correct" number; however, they're not currently listed in the article, but if I add those references, I'd be violating the 3-revert rule.

::As I said, the issue isn't with the idea alone that they removed warnings from their page; it's that they justified the removals with ad hominem. I once reported someone who had violated the 3 revert rule on a different and they accused me of violating NPOV, even though I provided an explanation that wasn't ever addressed. I was pretty new, and the person I reported happened to be a well-known user who, altough not an admin, was someone they implicity trusted. I even pointed out that the article, in the state it was left in, duplicated a reference, but again was totally ignored, was told to get over it, and to this day the article is still in bad shape. I'm afraid I don't have much faith there at the present moment. Sorry to vent there. Fundgy (talk) 09:35, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Counting in order is probably not original research, but you said that the order seems to be unclear. If it's unclear, it shouldn't be used unless a consensus develops around the exact order.

:::I'm not sure where the ad hominem is, questioning your opinion isn't necessarily an ad hominem or personal attack. But if you're saying the sources don't say what is claimed, but they say they do, that's an editing dispute that needs discussion, either on the talk page or in dispute resolution processes. Whether you want to pursue that or not is up to you. 331dot (talk) 09:48, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

::::Yeah, consensus is probably the only answer here. Calling someone partisan for no other apparent reason than to shut down argument seems like it fits the definition, but yeah it's not the most agregious case anyway. It's just so baffling to me when a user who's been here a while could, at any level, assume bad faith or resort to name-calling. It shouldn't be hard to show the most basic kindness to others, which is probably naive and idealistic to say, but hey, that's just my two cents...

::::Thanks for being patient with me, btw! You probably thought this already, but honestly the general editing culture on this site just isn't for me, because ultimately it feels like a detriment to my mental health to deal with silly things like edit wars. I do find satisfaction in making articles though, so I'll probably just stick more to that from now on. Fundgy (talk) 10:36, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
