VdB 1 (LBN 578, or Magakian 3) is a small reflection nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies a few arcminutes to the south-east of the bright yellow-hued giant star Beta Cassiopeiae, officially named Caph. VdB 1 lies about 1,600 light-years away.{{Cite web |title=APOD: 2012 October 26 - Reflection Nebula vdB1 |url=https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap121026.html |access-date=2023-04-21 |website=apod.nasa.gov}} Close to VdB 1 is the dark nebula LDN 1265. It is barely visible due to the brightness of Beta Cassiopeiae.{{Cite web |title=VdB 1 |url=https://www.irida-observatory.org/CCD/VdB1/VdB1.html |access-date=2023-04-21 |website=Irida Observatory}}
