workgroup (computer networking)

In computer networking a work group is a collection of computers connected on a LAN that share the common resources and responsibilities. Workgroup is Microsoft's term for a peer-to-peer local area network. Computers running Microsoft operating systems in the same work group may share files, printers, or Internet connection.{{cite web|url=http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/design/g/bldef_workgroup.htm|title=What Is a Workgroup in Computer Networking?|publisher=compnetworking.about.com|access-date=2014-04-17|archive-date=2014-04-18|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140418220412/http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/design/g/bldef_workgroup.htm|url-status=dead}} Work group contrasts with a domain, in which computers rely on centralized authentication.
