In January 2020, just before Carter's eighth birthday, rapper Megan Thee Stallion posted photos to her Instagram and Twitter of her, Beyoncé, and Carter. Vanity Fair writer K. Austin Collins and Harper's Bazaar web editor Violet Lucca criticized Carter's physical appearance. Both apologized and deleted their posts after backlash.{{cite news|last1=Griffith|first1=Janelle|date=January 2, 2020|title=Journalists apologize for mocking appearance of Blue Ivy, Beyoncé's 7-year-old daughter|publisher=NBC|url=https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/journalists-who-mocked-appearance-blue-ivy-beyonc-s-7-year-n1109801|access-date=August 2, 2020|archive-date=September 7, 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200907103229/https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/journalists-who-mocked-appearance-blue-ivy-beyonc-s-7-year-n1109801|url-status=live}}{{cite news|last1=Song|first1=Sandra|date=January 3, 2020|title=Fans Rally Behind Blue Ivy Carter After Journalists Criticize Her Looks|publisher=Paper Magazine|url=https://www.papermag.com/blue-ivy-carter-journalist-apology-2643631385.html|url-status=live|access-date=August 2, 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201022124020/https://www.papermag.com/blue-ivy-carter-journalist-apology-2643631385.html|archive-date=October 22, 2020}}
