The Association of Independent Commercial Producers, or AICP, is an American not for profit organization that represents the interests of United States companies that specialize in commercial production. Its members work in various media—film, video, digital—for advertisers and agencies.[http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2009/11/on-location-commercial-producers-revved-up-over-gms-pay-later-policies.html On Location: Commercial producers revved up over GM's pay-later policies], Richard Verrier, Los Angeles Times, November 17, 2009; accessed September 25, 2011 Founded in 1972, the association has national offices in New York City and Los Angeles as well as regional chapters.[http://www.aicp.com/#/about_aicp/ About the AICP], aicp.com; accessed September 25, 2011

In 2018, the AICP merged with the Association of Independent Creative Editors (AICE)—the former trade association for post production—under the AICP banner. The association promotes and advocates for independent production and post companies.[https://adage.com/article/cmo-strategy/production-post-ad-production-groups-marge/311700 With Merger, Production and Post-Ad Production Groups Seek Stronger Voice], AdAge, December 19, 2017; retrieved November 18, 2019[http://www.adweek.com/agencies/aicp-and-aice-merge-to-represent-production-post-production-shops-in-a-challenging-market/ 2 Trade Groups Merge to Represent Production and Postproduction Shops in a Challenging Market], AdWeek, December 19, 2017

The AICP's purpose is to disseminate industry information; represent the production and post companies within the advertising industry, in labor negotiations and before governmental officials; create industry standards; and provide professional development. Every year they produce The AICP Show, The Art & Technique of the American Commercial, as well as The Next Awards, which honor marketing innovations in emerging media. Both events take place at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City.[http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising-branding/mjz-tops-aicp-show-8-honors-132340 MJZ Tops AICP Show With 8 Honors], Gabriel Beltrone, Adweek, June 8, 2011; accessed September 25, 2011 An AICP Show Honor is considered one of the top advertising accolades in the U.S., and each year the work honored is made a part of the archives of the Department of Film at MoMA.[http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=129822 Night At The Museum: AICP Brings The MoMA Sculpture Garden To Life] {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100611214548/http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=129822 |date=June 11, 2010 }}, Kelly Samardak, Mediapost, June 9, 2011; accessed September 25, 2011[http://adage.com/article/news/creativity-awards-report/230726/ The Creativity Awards Report], Ann-Christine Diaz, Ad Age, October 31, 2011

In 2016, in conjunction with the Directors Guild of America, the AICP announced a new initiative to promote diversity and inclusion called the CDDP – Commercial Directors Diversity Program.[https://www.shootonline.com/news/judges-set-aicpdga-commercial-directors-diversity-program/archived_node Judges Set For AICP/DGA Commercial Directors Diversity Program], Shoot, September 20, 2019; retrieved November 18, 2019 The mission of the CDDP is to foster awareness and increase directing opportunities for women and other groups historically underrepresented in commercial directing.
