As a high school senior, Carson was not heavily recruited. LSU coaches were reviewing film of another player on Carson's team but kept noticing this wide receiver making plays. When they contacted Carlos to ask him to visit LSU, he asked if they were offering him scholarship. The coach said yes and Carson accepted right then. In his first game as a starter at LSU he caught five touchdown passes against Rice University.
On February 26, 2017, Carson was announced as the 2017 inductee into the Chiefs Hall of Fame.{{cite news|url=http://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article135127309.html|title=Chiefs induct 'Speedy' Carlos Carson into club's Hall of Fame|date=26 February 2017|work=The Kansas City Star|access-date=29 October 2017}} He was officially inducted on October 30, 2017.{{cite press release|title=Important Information for Monday Night Football|publisher=Kansas City Chiefs|date=27 October 2017|url=http://www.chiefs.com/news/article-2/Important-Information-for-Monday-Night-Football/77039828-9a83-4f5d-8f4d-425abed9b49d?sf126686597=1|access-date=29 October 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171112074032/http://www.chiefs.com/news/article-2/Important-Information-for-Monday-Night-Football/77039828-9a83-4f5d-8f4d-425abed9b49d?sf126686597=1|archive-date=12 November 2017|url-status=dead}}
