NickBigD 3/27/07: Candide Grammy -- I've reversed the edit made by AlbertSM as it implied that the Grammy was awarded to a recording of the live concert version of Candide conducted by Bernstein. The liner notes to the CD clearly state that the recorded version was done at Abbey Road Studio in December 1989 - the same month as the concert performances. Although there is a DVD/VHS of the concert version that was not the recipient of a Grammy award.

From a look at the article, I can tell you a few things that should be improved before it can be rated as a Good Article:

• The articles main image, :Image:June300.jpeg fails criteria #1 of Wikipedia's Fair Use Criteria. Specifically, since June Anderson is still alive, it is reasonable to assume that a free equivalent could be created. I would recommend trying Flickr to see if there's any free photos that you can ask permission for, or see if there's some way to contact the author of the original image or any other copyrighted images to ask for permission.
• The article needs an infobox of some kind. I'm not sure if there's an Opera singer infobox, but if all else fails you could use template:Infobox musical artist 2.
• The article should be referenced much more heavily. In general, any complete thought should be accompanied by a reference. So, take for example, the following text: {{cquote|In 1986, she performed her first Desdemona in Rossini's Otello in Venice. The same year, she made her debut at La Scala in Milan in La Sonnambula, and her debut at Covent Garden in productions of Semiramide and Lucia di Lammermoor. :Each sentence is a complete thought (and a different event in the person's life), so each should be referenced accordingly. Conversely, if whole paragraphs are about a single performance/event/moment, than one overarching reference will also suffice. Large portions of the article are in need of such attention, not just the quote above. Sounds like alot of work, I know, but it is especially necessary in a Biographical article. It sounds like she is a well-documented performer, so I'm sure sources out there exist, it's just a matter of finding it and referencing things.

• Most references should ideally use a Citation template.
• Also, sources used repeatedly ("J. Warrack and E. West, The Oxford Dictionary of Opera (1992)." for example) can reference the same initial reference. I know the way I said that doesn't make sense, so, for example: The first time you use the above reference, do this:

:Not only does this save time and space, but it will consolidate all instances of it in the reference section, and any necessary changes only need to be done once, not 2 3 4 + times.

• Although the main image on the page is problematic at the moment, that doesn't mean more images wouldn't be appropriate. It would be informative to see June Anderson during a particular performance. These images can be fair use, since a photo of a particular event (person X at event Y on date Z) is irreplaceable.
• Also, I would recommend re-organizing the article a bit. Maybe you could seperate her biography and the many review quotations. Maybe a "Style" or "Vocal style" section would also be good. Maybe a non-career-based biography would help. Is she married? Does she have kids? Who'd she vote for? Any controversies? Any personal victories? The article is currently very career-based.

I know this is alot to do, but it all seems well within a reasonable expectations. Overall the article is fairly well-written, and surprisingly in-depth about her opera career. However given the above points, I wouldn't say the article is ready for GA status just yet. :::The GA criteria has since changed slightly to de-emphasize in-line citations (see WP:WIAGA). So, I've stricken my comment above about need for more references, in case anyone wants to re-nominate this article at some point. That said, certain information does still require citations according to the criteria, so that may still be a valid criticism in certain sections of the article. I have emailed the agency for Ms. Anderson on several occasions in search of a photograph that meets Wikipedia requirements for images, or one that could be accompanied with a release for such purposes, but have received no reply. If anyone has a possible lead on an appropriate photograph, this article (like all the opera articles that have been stripped of images and illustrations) could greatly benefit from such a contribution.

:I would take your peer reviewer's suggestion and contact the photographer/copyrightholder of all the photos of her you can find on the web, and see if they would release them to the public domain. :Also, I'd recommend asking for help on the Opera WikiProject. Maybe one of them has a pic. Lastly, I recommend asking the project to change its mind about infoboxes and images. This is the main reason I think that no opera singer articles have made it to FA status. If you want support on this desire to get infoboxes and images reinstated for opera singers, let me know. According to the ratings of the Opera Project, I see that this article has been rated a "Start Class" which purportedly means "Substantial/major editing is needed, most material for a complete article needs to be added. This article usually isn't even good enough for a cleanup tag: it still needs to be built." I find most of these ratings useless in any event, but for the record I strongly disagree and object to this rating. If whoever assigned it would be so kind as to explain the basis for the rating it would be greatly appreciated. NickInBigD ^(Hey!) 22:34, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

:I've uprated it to B. Obviously it isn't start - that was just an automatic bot rating as you will see from the edit history. At the moment the Opera Project is only doing nominal ratings.
