In October 2022, after Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Noah claimed that there was a racist backlash in the UK against someone of Indian heritage taking that role. British Conservative politician Sajid Javid described Noah's remarks as "A narrative catered to his audience, at a cost of being completely detached from reality." There were suggestions that Noah was projecting the U.S. political context onto the UK; English author Tom Holland stated, "As ever, the inability of American liberals to understand the world beyond the US in anything but American terms is a thing of wonder."{{cite news |last=Beal |first=James |date=27 October 2022 |title=Trevor Noah's claims of racist backlash against Rishi Sunak condemned |language=en |newspaper=The Times |place=London, UK |url=https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/row-over-trevor-noahs-claim-of-racist-backlash-against-rishi-sunak-p602790t7 |access-date=27 October 2022 |archive-date=27 October 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221027203708/https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/row-over-trevor-noahs-claim-of-racist-backlash-against-rishi-sunak-p602790t7 |url-status=live }}{{Cite web |date=2022-10-28 |title='Detached from reality': Trevor Noah's view of racist Sunak 'backlash' divides opinion |url=https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/oct/28/detached-from-reality-trevor-noah-view-of-racist-sunak-backlash-divides-opinion |access-date=2022-11-16 |website=The Guardian |language=en |archive-date=16 November 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221116032711/https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/oct/28/detached-from-reality-trevor-noah-view-of-racist-sunak-backlash-divides-opinion |url-status=live }} Sunak's spokesperson insisted, in response to Noah's claims, that the UK is not a racist country; Noah stated that he never made a statement about the country as a whole, only about "some people".{{Cite news |date=2022-10-29 |title=Trevor Noah: I never said entire UK racist, says comic after Rishi Sunak row |language=en-GB |work=BBC News |url=https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-63437351 |access-date=2022-11-16 |archive-date=16 November 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221116032711/https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-63437351 |url-status=live }}

In 2013, Noah said of his comedic influences, {{Blockquote|The kings are indisputable.
