This page isn't particularly pretty by my standards, but it will suffice until I find myself saddled with hours of free time (as if that could happen anytime soon).
About me
I'm author of [http://home.hiwaay.net/~jimes/necktie/ The Necktie Repository] and [http://docs.rinet.ru/UNIXi/ch33.htm UNIX Unleashed IRIX FAQ] ({{ISBN|0672312050}}), among other things. I like taking pictures (I've submitted some), and I take [http://www.jumpthemoonphoto.com/ horse event pictures] as a diversion from programming computers (my day job) and contributing to Wikipedia.

I'm an amateur radio operator, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, a resident of Apex, North Carolina, and a recovering Wikipediaholic. I have attended Randolph School ('91), The University of Alabama in Huntsville ('97), and North Carolina State University where I worked on a masters degree in computer science with emphasis on software engineering.
I've participated in Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, the National Space Society, and The Association for Computing Machinery.

I used to keep Template:Opentask up to date with captions needing attention and keep an eye on Wikipedia:Tomorrow's featured article to see that it has good captions, but now I let others see about that.
I often find myself helping others set up their computers, and I have a little checklist of the /Basic computer setup for Windows machines.

Not admin rationale
I am not interested in being a Wikipedia administrator for a couple of reasons. First, I do not have, nor will I ever attain, the requisite number of edits. This is probably because my contributions tend to be content rather than admin-type things. That said, I do revert vandalism when it appears on my watchlist, and if need be, ask for admin help. During my most recent RfA (nominated by a new editor), the argument came up that if I used the admin privileges at least once, it would be a net-positive. I disagree. I'd need to use the admin privileges at least enough to make up for the effort of the RfA. A few of my hours were burned over that RfA, and several of other users as well. It's safe to say that some tens of hours were consumed considering that RfA, hours that could have been better spent on content or combating vandalism. Were I to accept a nomination, it would bring about even more scrutiny, consuming hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours for its consideration. I would need to put a considerable burden on the existing administrator league to make it worth everyone's time to make me an admin to offload my own impact, that or change my modus operandi to carry out more admin activities, and that's not likely.
