28 September – Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz, a German diplomat, after secretly making sure Sweden would receive Jewish refugees, leaks word of the German plans for the arrest and deportation of the some 8,000 Danish Jews to Hans Hedtoft, chairman of the Danish Social Democratic Party.{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=m2dJ26rfqvYC&q=Georg+Ferdinand++28+september+hans+hedtoft&pg=PA16|title=The Rescue of the Danish Jews: moral courage under stress|year=1987|publisher=Leo Goldberger|isbn=9780814730119|access-date=2009-11-18}} The result is the rescue of the Danish Jews, with most of the country's Jews escaping to Sweden.
