The 1996 UEFA Intertoto Cup finals were won by Silkeborg, Guingamp, and Karlsruhe. All three teams advanced to the UEFA Cup. No English team took part in support of Tottenham Hotspur and Wimbledon initially getting banned by UEFA from European competition, after both fielded under-strength sides in the previous year's competition.{{cite web |url=https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/premier-league-vetoes-the-intertoto-cup-1324474.html |archive-url=https://ghostarchive.org/archive/20220501/https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/premier-league-vetoes-the-intertoto-cup-1324474.html |archive-date=2022-05-01 |url-access=subscription |title=Premier League vetoes the Intertoto Cup |work=The Independent |date=17 January 1996 |access-date=26 January 2010}}{{cbignore}}
