History
2000trees was started by six friends in 2007, focusing on providing an alternative to large mainstream rock festivals.{{Cite web |last=Dhillon |first=Achal |date=2017-06-21 |title=Why 2000trees Festival is the 'anti mainstream festival' you should go to |url=https://metro.co.uk/2017/06/21/why-2000trees-festival-is-the-anti-mainstream-festival-you-should-go-to-6720046/ |access-date=2023-08-25 |website=Metro |language=en}} The festival focuses on rock and indie music and is run as an independent business, with the core organiser team only paying themselves salaries if the festival makes a profit.{{Cite web |last=Whiteway-Wilkinson |first=Zasha |date=2020-04-28 |title=Cheltenham's 2000trees Festival postponed until 2021 |url=https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/organisers-cheltenhams-2000trees-festival-take-4086262 |access-date=2023-08-25 |website=GloucestershireLive |language=en}} It has a cap of 15,000 attendees, to keep the "unique 2000Trees vibe" of a small festival with a close-knit atmosphere.{{Cite web |last=Law |first=Sam |date=2023-07-03 |title=20 bands you can't miss at this weekend's 2000trees |url=https://www.kerrang.com/the-20-bands-you-cant-miss-at-2000trees-2023-heriot-bob-vylan-zulu-high-vis-militarie-gun-mimi-barks-festival/ |access-date=2023-08-25 |website=Kerrang! |language=en}}
The first edition of the festival featured performances from Frank Turner, InMe, Brigade, and Devil Sold His Soul.{{Cite web |last=Dedman |first=Remfry |date=2016-06-14 |title=2000trees Festival celebrates 10th year with their best line-up yet |url=https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/2000trees-festival-the-british-rock-scene-is-in-the-rudest-health-since-we-started-ten-years-ago-a7078346.html |access-date=2023-08-25 |website=The Independent |language=en}}
The festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to complications relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, issues including international travel restrictions preventing acts from entering the United Kingdom, and the government not providing insurance to the live events industry in the event of cancellation, prevented the running of the festival.{{Cite web |date=2021-04-26 |title=2000trees Festival postponed to 2022 due to travel concerns and lack of COVID cancellation insurance |url=https://www.nme.com/news/music/2000trees-festival-postponed-to-2022-due-to-travel-concerns-and-lack-of-covid-cancellation-insurance-2927885 |access-date=2021-04-29 |website=NME |language=en-GB}}
