The 2017–18 A-League was the 41st season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the 13th since the establishment of the A-League in 2004. The season began on 6 October 2017 and ended with the Grand Final on 5 May 2018.{{cite web|url=http://www.a-league.com.au/article/hyundai-a-league-201718-season-draw-released/1qvhm9sty9iq213ehxo5fd8buh|title=Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season draw released|publisher=Football Federation Australia|work=A-League|date=28 June 2017}}

Sydney FC won the A-League minor premiership, while Melbourne Victory won the Championship after defeating the Newcastle Jets 1–0 in the Grand Final on 5 May 2018; this marked the first time in A-League history in which the Championship was won by a team which finished outside the top 2.{{cite web|last1=Rosengarten|first1=Jake|title=Melbourne Victory's grand final win sees Melbourne City without an Asian Champions League spot|url=https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/melbourne-victorys-grand-final-win-sees-melbourne-city-without-an-asian-champions-league-spot/news-story/a23dc5a6ea68feb53e323399d620ab1b?nk=1b3914e74327f5543c04f2ede1cf8774-1525604965|website=Fox Sports Australia|date=6 May 2018 |publisher=News Corp|accessdate=6 May 2018}}

During the season each club is given fair play points based on the number of cards they received in games. A yellow card is worth 1 point, a second yellow card is worth 2 points, and a red card is worth 3 points. At the annual awards night, the club with the fewest points wins the Fair Play Award.{{cite web|url=http://footballcentral.com.au/disciplinary-record-march/|title=A Fair Play Update|publisher=Football Central|first=Scott|last=Owen|date=11 March 2016|access-date=7 October 2017|archive-date=10 March 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160310192002/http://footballcentral.com.au/disciplinary-record-march/|url-status=dead}}
