Qualifying was determined by a qualifying metric system based on the previous race, the 2021 United Rentals 176 at The Glen and owner's points. As a result, Austin Hill of Hattori Racing Enterprises would win the pole.{{Cite web|last=Kristl|first=Mark|date=2021-08-18|title=Austin Hill On Gateway Truck Pole|url=https://www.frontstretch.com/2021/08/18/back-to-back-winner-austin-hill-grabs-gateway-pole/|access-date=2021-10-03|website=www.frontstretch.com|language=en-US}}
