    Criticism

    The three nominations for The Tourist were criticized since the film previously received negative reviews from critics and was nominated in the Musical or Comedy categories despite the fact that it was sold as a thriller film.{{Cite web|date=2010-12-15|title='Tourist,' Depp nods among Globes surprises|url=http://www.today.com/popculture/tourist-depp-nods-among-globes-surprises-wbna40660854|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210314102106/https://www.today.com/popculture/tourist-depp-nods-among-globes-surprises-wbna40660854|archive-date=2021-03-14|access-date=2021-03-14|website=Today}}{{cite news|last=Zeitchik|first=Steven|date=2010-12-14|title=How 'The Tourist' got three Golden Globes nominations and 'True Grit' got nada |work=LA Times Blog |url=http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2010/12/the-tourist-johnny-depp-angelina-jolie-golden-globes-true-grit.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210615004659/https://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2010/12/the-tourist-johnny-depp-angelina-jolie-golden-globes-true-grit.html |archive-date=2021-06-15 |url-status=live }}{{cite news|last=Nordyke |first=Kimberly |date=2010-12-14 |title=Why Angelina Jolie 'Laughed' About Her Golden Globe Nomination |newspaper=The Hollywood Reporter |url=http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/angelina-jolie-laughed-golden-globe-59858 |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210325052239/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/angelina-jolie-laughed-golden-globe-59858 |archive-date=2021-03-25 }} The nominations for Burlesque, another film with bad reviews, also received outrage after news surfaced that the film's distributor, Sony, had treated Golden Globe voters to an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas, culminating in a concert by Cher, one of the film's stars.{{cite news|last=Adams|first=Guy|date=2010-12-19|title=Bribed Golden Globe judges nominate flops after Vegas junket: 'The Tourist' and 'Burlesque' are among poorly reviewed films up for awards|work=The Independent|location=London|url=https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/bribed-golden-globe-judges-nominate-flops-after-vegas-junket-2164322.html|url-status=dead|access-date=2010-12-21|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101219231949/http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/bribed-golden-globe-judges-nominate-flops-after-vegas-junket-2164322.html|archive-date=2010-12-19}}
