Plot

Choi Kang-ta is a super agent with a feared reputation who gains powers similar to a god. As a child, he lost his parents and was adopted by an American couple. After becoming an adult, he returns to Korea to exact revenge on the murderer of his father. He learns that there were four people responsible for his father's death. In the midst of carrying out his plans, his partner Vivian betrays him, putting his life in danger. He is nursed back to health by Bo-bae, a reporter he met by chance, and as he falls in love with her, his beliefs are shaken. After recovering from his wounds, he settles down in a slum neighborhood where he befriends the poor residents. For the first time in his life, he is surrounded by warmth and love in his new home, and finds peace within himself. But Hwang Woo-hyun, a high-ranking official at the Korean Central Intelligence Agency and heir to the Hwanglim Group empire, becomes enraged with jealousy that Choi Kang-ta stole Bo-bae away from him and decides to have him eliminated.{{cite web|title=The Man Almighty - Synopsis of Episodes 1-24|url=http://content.mbc.co.kr/english/drama/10/1760586_34783.html|work=MBC Global Media|access-date=July 11, 2013|archive-date=October 15, 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131015092442/http://content.mbc.co.kr/english/drama/10/1760586_34783.html|url-status=live}}{{cite web|last=Kim|first=Kyo-suk|title=REVIEW: The Man Called God - First episode|url=http://www.asiae.co.kr/news/view.htm?sec=ent5&idxno=2010030814351055124|work=10Asia|access-date=July 11, 2013|date=March 9, 2010}}

Liancourt Rocks (Dokdo Islands) controversy

Originally set to premiere on August 21, 2012 on BS Nippon, the airing of A Man Called God was indefinitely delayed after the broadcaster feared public backlash, amid diplomatic tension and rising anti-Korean sentiment in Japan against Hallyu celebrities regarding the Korea-Japan territorial dispute over the Liancourt Rocks. Lead actor Song Il-gook had participated in a 220-kilometer patriotic relay swim to the Liancourt Rocks on August 15 to commemorate South Korea's Liberation Day, which marks the end of Japan's colonial rule in 1945.{{cite web|title=Japan TV pulls Korean drama over Dokdo spat|url=http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20120815000398|work=The Korea Herald|access-date=July 11, 2013|date=August 15, 2012}}{{cite web|title=Korea-Japan Tension Spills Over into Entertainment, Sport|url=http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2012/08/16/2012081601314.html|work=The Chosun Ilbo|access-date=July 11, 2013|date=August 16, 2012}}{{cite web|last=Kim|first=Tong-hyung|title=Dokdo dispute spreads to economy|url=https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/biz/2012/08/123_117576.html|work=The Korea Times|access-date=July 11, 2013|date=August 17, 2012}}{{cite web|last=Sunwoo|first=Carla|title=Song's dramas postponed in Japan|url=http://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/news/article/article.aspx?aid=2958049|work=Korea JoongAng Daily|access-date=July 11, 2013|date=August 18, 2012}}{{cite web|last=Lee|first=Jin-yeong|title=The Dokdo dilemma for Korean stars|url=http://english.donga.com/srv/service.php3?biid=2012082732828|work=The Dong-a Ilbo|access-date=July 11, 2013|date=August 27, 2012}}{{cite web|last=Chung|first=Ah-young|title=Japan's nationalism targets hallyu stars|url=https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/culture/2013/03/386_132238.html|work=The Korea Times|access-date=July 11, 2013|date=March 17, 2013}}
