Career
He won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the team pursuit event with teammates Sam Bewley, Marc Ryan, Jesse Sergent and Westley Gough.{{cite news|last=Devlin|first=Colette|title=Pursuit team won a medal for Mark|url=http://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/sport/7420460/Pursuit-team-won-a-medal-for-Mark|work=The Southland Times|date=6 August 2012}} On 24 February 2013 in Belarus, Gate won the world championship title in the omnium event. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Gate competed in the team pursuit event with teammates Regan Gough, Jordan Kerby and Campbell Stewart. In the bronze medal race against Australia, he crashed after clipping Kerby's rear wheel, fracturing his collarbone.
