History
Before the foundation of Al-Najda Sport Club, there was another football team, similarly named Shortat Al-Najda, which was founded in 1960, and was affiliated with the Iraqi Police. In 1974, Shortat Al-Najda and the other Police teams were replaced in the top-flight by Al-Shorta Sports Club after the foundation of the National Clubs League.{{cite web|title=Al Shorta Sports Club, History – Overview|url=https://alshorta.webs.com/overview-of-history|website=alshorta.webs.com|language=English|date=2010–2020}}
Shortat Al-Najda participated in non-IFA competitions such as the Armed Forces League from 1974 until the early 1980s when the team disbanded. In 2005, Al-Najda SC was founded.{{cite web|title=نادي النجدة من الأندية العريقة اللي لها ماضي وتأريخ ومستقبل|url=https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1103596183030289&id=587283854661527|publisher=Al-Najda SC|language=Arabic|date=26 May 2016|last=Al-Maalij|first=Raad}}{{Primary source inline|date=January 2023}}
