On December 18, 1919, he took ownership of Camille Hussenot's import shop from Camille Hussenot.{{Cite web|url=http://www.memoireduquebec.com/wiki/index.php?title=Van_Houtte_(Albert-Louis)|title=Van Houtte (Albert-Louis) - La Mémoire du Québec|website=www.memoireduquebec.com|language=fr|access-date=2018-09-29}} The shop was at 321 Ontario Street East in Montreal.
