Alpheus digitalis is a species of pistol shrimp in the family Alpheidae.{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Taxonomy|url=https://www.uniprot.org/taxonomy/674293|archive-url=|archive-date=|access-date=2020-06-16|website=Uniprot}}{{Cite journal|last=|first=|date=|title=De Haan, Alpheus Digitalis|doi=10.1007/BF00164325|s2cid=32212098}} The species was first discovered after a taxonomic study of a snapping shrimp from the genus Alpheus from Japan and the Gulf of Thailand, of which, it was found that two species was confounded under A.digitalis, which was originally described based on a single specimen possessing abnormal chelipeds.{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Identity and description of Alpheus Digitalis, De Haan, 1844|url=https://www.researchers.net/publication/316920080_Identity_of_Alpheus_digitalis_De_Haan_1844_and_description_of_a_new_closely_related_species_from_the_northwestern_Pacific_Decapoda_Caridea_Alpheidae|archive-url=|archive-date=|access-date=2020-06-16|website=Research Gate}}{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Alpheus Digitalis|url=https://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search%3DAlpheus%2Bdigitalis|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200616100923/https://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search%3DAlpheus%2Bdigitalis |archive-date=2020-06-16 |access-date=2020-06-16|website=Discover Life}}{{Cite web|title=Alpheus digitalis|url=https://prezi.com/ykjfd_8pstkr/alpheus-digitalis/|access-date=2020-06-16|website=prezi.com|language=en}}
Differences between ''A. digitalis'' & ''A.longiforceps''
Between the two species, the most unique difference is coloration and morphology. A.longiforceps, the new species, can be differentiated from A.digitalis by the more slender (rather than connex), flexor margin, the longer male minor chela, more elongate dactylus, possession of a single (rather than two), obliquely transverse white bands on the spot which is located on the lateral surface of the fourth abdominal region. The present day new species is referred to the Alpheus brevirostris species group, mainly because of the compressed palm of the major cheliped and the subpatulate ductylus of the pereiopods 3 and 4.{{Cite web|title=Alpheus digitalis de Haan, 1844|url=https://www.gbif.org/species/2226162|access-date=2020-06-16|website=www.gbif.org|language=en}}{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Species|url=https://www.pubnag.nal.usda.gov/catalog/341667|archive-url=|archive-date=|access-date=2020-06-16|website=Pubnag}}{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=PDF on Alpheus Digitalis|url=https://decapoda.nhm.org/pdfs/32283/32283-001.pdf|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140808043842/http://decapoda.nhm.org/pdfs/32283/32283-001.pdf |archive-date=2014-08-08 |access-date=2020-06-16|website=Decapoda.nhm.org}}{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Alpheus Digitalis and Alpheus Longiforceps|url=https://itis.gov/servlet/SingleRPT|archive-url=|archive-date=|access-date=2020-06-16|website=Itis.gov}}{{Cite web|title=Life|url=https://www.mindat.org/taxon.php|access-date=2020-06-16|website=www.mindat.org}}{{Cite journal|last1=Yang|first1=Hoi Jeong|last2=Kim|first2=Chang Hyun|date=2002-01-01|title=Early zoeas of two snapping shrimps Alpheus digitalis de Haan, 1850 and alpheus japonicus Miers, 1879 (de capo da, Caridea, Alpheidae) with notes on the larval character of the Alpheidae|journal=Korean Journal of Biological Sciences|volume=6|issue=2|pages=95–105|doi=10.1080/12265071.2001.9647641|s2cid=84221778|issn=1226-5071|doi-access=free}}{{Cite web|title=Advanced search|url=https://mare.istc.cnr.it/fisheriesv2/aquatic-resources_en|access-date=2020-06-16|website=mare.istc.cnr.it}}{{Cite web|title=Alpheus digitalis, forceps snapping shrimp : fisheries|url=https://www.sealifebase.ca/summary/Alpheus-digitalis.html|access-date=2020-06-16|website=www.sealifebase.ca}}{{Cite book|last1=Siebold|first1=Philipp Franz von|url=http://archive.org/details/faunajaponicasi1sieb|title=Fauna japonica, sive, Descriptio animalium, quae in itinere per Japoniam, jussu et auspiciis, superiorum, qui summum in India Batava imperium tenent, suscepto, annis 1823-1830|last2=Haan|first2=W. de(Willem)|last3=Temminck|first3=C.
