Kumanova made her official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she initially competed in the inaugural women's hammer throw. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Kumanova qualified for her second Bulgarian squad, as a 32-year-old veteran, in the women's shot put.
