His career earnings as of April 1, 2015 were over $100k.{{cite web |url=https://sports.yahoo.com/golf/pga/players/18437 |title=Austin Cook Profile |publisher=Yahoo Sports |accessdate=April 4, 2015}}

In April 2015, Cook made it into the Shell Houston Open through the Monday qualifier, finding himself in contention in short order. With a 4-under-par 68 on Thursday, Cook made a strong close on Friday, with four consecutive birdies to win a spot in the final group along with Andrew Putnam and Phil Mickelson.{{cite web |url=http://thegolfnewsnet.com/golfnewsnetteam/2015/04/04/shell-houston-open-contender-austin-cook-10552/ |title=Who is Shell Houston Open contender Austin Cook? |publisher=Golf News Net |date=April 4, 2014}} On Saturday of the tournament, Golfweek said Cook "did not fold under the pressure of playing alongside Phil Mickelson," and carded a 2-under 70 as he headed into Sunday's final round one off of Jordan Spieth's lead,{{cite magazine|url=https://golfweek.com/news/2015/apr/04/pga-tour-live-blog-shell-houston-open-mickelson-3/ |title=Recap: Cook seeks career-altering Shell Houston Open win |magazine=Golfweek |date=April 4, 2015 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150406001530/http://golfweek.com/news/2015/apr/04/pga-tour-live-blog-shell-houston-open-mickelson-3/ |archivedate=2015-04-06 }} tied for second place at 203 with first-round leader Scott Piercy and Johnson Wagner.
