During the COVID-19 pandemic, fares were abolished starting in July 2020. In January 2023, fares were reestablished and passengers were required to use noncash payments (such as electronic money cards or QRIS). Ridership immediately prior to this change was reported to be over 20,000 daily passengers, though this figure declined by 20-25% following this change.{{cite news |title=Jumlah Penumpang Batik Solo Trans Turun Seusai Penerapan Aturan Berbayar |url=https://semarang.bisnis.com/read/20230110/536/1616916/jumlah-penumpang-batik-solo-trans-turun-seusai-penerapan-aturan-berbayar |access-date=18 June 2023 |work=Bisnis.com |date=10 January 2023 |language=id}}{{cite news |last1=Rama |first1=Kevin |title=Bus Batik Solo Trans Tak Lagi Gratis, Jumlah Penumpang Turun 25 Persen |url=https://mettanews.id/bst-tak-lagi-gratis-jumlah-penumpang-turun-25-persen/ |access-date=18 June 2023 |work=Mettanews.id |date=9 January 2023 |language=id}} The annual ridership for the service was over 4.8 million people in 2023 up until 20 December.{{cite news |last1=Wibowo |first1=Galih Aprilia |title=Penumpang BST Solo pada 2023 Tembus 4,8 Juta, Ini Rincian Rute Paling Diminati |url=https://bisnis.solopos.com/penumpang-bst-solo-pada-2023-tembus-48-juta-ini-rincian-rute-paling-diminati-1845702 |access-date=24 August 2024 |work=Solo Pos |date=21 January 2024 |language=id}}
