Background and recording

On 19 January 2018, Who released "Ignore Me", her first single as an independent artist after parting ways with RCA Records in 2017.{{cite web | url=https://www.out.com/out-exclusives/2018/1/19/betty-who-broke-free-found-empowerment-rejection | title=Betty Who Broke Free & Found Empowerment In Rejection | publisher=Out Magazine | date=19 January 2018 | access-date=19 January 2018 | author=Silver, Jocelyn}}{{cite web | url=https://www.teenvogue.com/story/betty-who-profile | title=Meet Betty Who, an Unconventional Pop Star With a Plan | publisher=Teen Vogue | date=19 January 2018 | access-date=19 January 2018 | author=Bell, Keaton}} She felt it was a necessary step, as the sometimes lagging and slow-paced corporate nature of record labels prevented her from releasing music at the pace she wanted to.
