The series, run by director and executive producer Dawn Porter, looks at Kennedy's political lore, including his 1968 presidential campaign, which ended with his assassination on June 5, 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The show uses archival footage during Kennedy's time as Attorney General and Senator, as well as conversations he had with his brothers, United States President John F. Kennedy and United States Senator Ted Kennedy.{{Cite news|url=https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/26/entertainment/bobby-kennedy-review/index.html|title='Bobby Kennedy for President' adds to rich trove of Kennedy lore|last=Lowry|first=Brian|date=April 26, 2018|work=CNN|access-date=2018-09-17}}{{Cite news|url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/bobby-kennedy-president-review-1105428|title='Bobby Kennedy for President': TV Review|last=Fienberg|first=Daniel|date=April 25, 2018|work=The Hollywood Reporter|access-date=2018-09-17|language=en}}{{Cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/26/arts/television/review-bobby-kennedy-for-president-netflix.html|title=Review: In 'Bobby Kennedy for President,' a Don Draper of Politics|last=Hale|first=Mike|date=April 26, 2018|work=The New York Times|access-date=2018-09-17|language=en}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/apr/27/bobby-kennedy-netflix-documentary-shines-a-light-on-his-relevance|title=Bobby Kennedy: Netflix documentary shines a light on his relevance|last=Holpuch|first=Amanda|date=2018-04-27|website=the Guardian|language=en|access-date=2018-09-17}}{{Cite news|url=https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/bobby-kennedy-for-president-netflix-documentary-review|title=Netflix's Bobby Kennedy Documentary Reveals Stark, Tragic Truths About An American Political Dynasty|last=Campbell|first=Christopher|date=April 27, 2018|work=Thrillist|access-date=2018-09-17}}
