Critical reception

AllMusic editor Jason Birchmeier called the song one of the album's "immediate highlights." He described "Boom" as "a by-the-numbers rewrite of Usher's "Yeah," which likewise boasts Lil Jon's trademark production, a guest rap cameo, a dance club theme, and a catchy, simple one-syllable refrain."[{{AllMusic|class=album|id=r718672|pure_url=yes}} Allmusic review] Caroline Sullivan from The Guardian and Angelina Yeo from MTV Asia also compared "Boom" to the Usher song, calling it "near-identical" and a "recycled version," respectively.{{cite web|first=Caroline |last=Sullivan|url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/2005/apr/01/popandrock.shopping4|title=Mario, Turning Point|date=April 1, 2005|work=The Guardian|accessdate=October 9, 2024}}{{cite web|first=Angelina|last=Yeo|url=http://mtvasia.com/Review/CD/C20050509001220.html |title=Mario, Turning Point (J Records)|website=MTV Asia |access-date=October 9, 2024 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060831062014/http://mtvasia.com/Review/CD/C20050509001220.html |archive-date=August 31, 2006 |df=mdy }}

Billboard found that "though the song has all the makings of a formula R&B hit, it is hard to determine how successful "Boom" will be. On one hand, Lil Jon's synthesized keyboard riff that seemed so cool in his earlier songs is now becoming annoyingly redundant. Then again, today's music listeners seem to embrace anything that has been heard before."{{cite magazine|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=9hUEAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&hl|title=Reviews > Singles|date=October 1, 2005|access-date=October 9, 2024|magazine=Billboard}} In her review of parent album Go, Gail Mitchell, also writing for Billboard, found that the song was "one glitch in the proceedings [...] Produced by Lil Jon, it's too derivative of Usher's 2004 megahit, "Yeah!."{{cite web|first=Gail |last=Mitchell|url=https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/turning-point-65309/|title=Music News: Turning Point|website=Billboard.com|date=December 18, 2004|access-date=October 9, 2024 }}
