The Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency is a Single Member Constituency (SMC) located in the western area of Singapore. It is managed by Holland–Bukit Panjang Town Council. The current Member of Parliament for the constituency is from the People's Action Party (PAP) Liang Eng Hwa.
History
Bukit Panjang Constituency was created in 1955.
In 1988, the constituency was renamed Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency following the establishment of Group representation constituency (GRC) and Single Member Constituency (SMC).{{Cite news |date=15 June 1988 |title=13 GRCs for next general election |url=https://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/digitised/article/straitstimes19880615-1.2.2 |access-date=13 March 2025 |work=The Straits Times |pages=1 |via=NewspaperSG}}
During the 1991 general election, the constituency was absorbed into the Sembawang GRC.
In the 2006 electoral boundary redraw, Bukit Panjang SMC was carved out from Holland–Bukit Panjang GRC, which had absorbed the ward in 2001, to reform the Bukit Panjang SMC.
During the 2020 Singapore general election, incumbent MP, Teo Ho Pin, announced his retirement from politics.{{Cite web |date=11 October 2020 |title=Tiong Seng appoints former MP Teo Ho Pin as new independent board director |url=https://sg.news.yahoo.com/tiong-seng-appoints-former-mp-152047661.html |access-date=2021-10-27 |website=sg.news.yahoo.com |language=en-SG}} Liang Eng Hwa, who was previously a MP for Holland–Bukit Timah GRC, was announced as the replacement candidate for Teo.{{Cite news |last=Kaur |first=Karamjit |last2=Yong |first2=Clement |date=2020-07-11 |title=GE2020 official results: PAP retains Bukit Panjang SMC with 53.74% of votes |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/politics/ge2020-results-pap-retains-bukit-panjang-smc-with-5374-of-votes |access-date=2025-04-22 |work=The Straits Times |language=en |issn=0585-3923}} The Singapore Democratic Party revealed Paul Tambyah to be its candidate on nomination day for the SMC.
